cd/dvd printer recommendations - 04-09-2009, 02:55 PM

So lately I have been having the need to print cd's and dvd's. I don't print photos at home, so that really isn't an issue. I have wanted to get something to fax. Of course I went to Best Buy, and they were clueless. I do not want to print labels, I want to print directly on the cd. I have thought about Light Scribe, but I'm not sure it's very impressive. Any suggestions?

Check out the Dymo disc painter: http://global.dymo.com/enUS/DiscPainter/default.html. To me, it looks pretty impressive.

Some things work very well with Lightscribe, others don't. Just depends on if you like the elegance of monochrome etching or the "pop" of hi-res full color.

My Canon MP970 does a great job on CDs/DVDS, prints directly on the disk.

(small catch: You'll have to buy the CD/DVD tray on eBAy, and change the printer settings to European... Epson appears to hold the rights to this technology here in the U.S. and has blocked Canon somehow, etc... But in Europe Epson does not have a lock on the competition. So with a little tweak and a tray from eBay...)

My Epson R800 did great the one time a few years ago that I tried it out. It was a nice feature I never use.

I keep an Epson R280 around just for that task.

I told you and I told you. If Best Buy is the last place on earth selling something I think I need, I'll do without.

Sounds like Jeff made you a nice offer.

Cheers!

I know Wayne...I felt like I was beating my head against the wall!!! It was kind of funny though!! I walked in, asked the question. Uh, no we don't have any except this one printer that does light scribe. Then ask you look on the wall behind the printer there are two HUGE promotions with samples of printed cds. DUH!!!!!!!!!!

Another vote for the Epsons. I have a RX580 and R280, both with continuous ink supplies, and they do a great job on disks, especially the glossy ones. I burn the disk first, then print it, so I don't have to worry about the heat from the burning affecting the ink.

Well if Renae declines your offer I would love to take you up on it. I've been wanting a printer for cd/dvds!
