Panorama printing and framing - help needed! - 04-29-2009, 08:58 AM

So I've been working on a project since January and it's finally time to output the thing.

I'm looking for a company that can print out a 48x12 panorama print and then one (if not the same print company) that can mat (2") and frame said print.

I usually use Mpix but they do not seem to offer this service. Can anyone recommend a service that might handle a project this large?

Thanks!

Joe

My Photo Pipe can...

You may have to go up a size and trim it.

http://www.perfectposters.com

any size, trimmed to your specs, pay by the inch printed.

they don't do framing/matting, you'lll need a local custom shop for that (or the DIY modular type frame from almost anywhere); but with the price of the print from perfect posters, you'll be able to afford it.

Joe, I don't know any that print, matt and frame. But for local framing these are good and they are DPPA Sponsors.

Pounds for printing: http://www.poundslabs.com/ I don't know what your project "look" is but they have a standout mounting that is killer. It might work instead of framing.

For Frames:
Framedomain does custom work: http://www.framedomain.com/index.html

Thanks for the responses!! I'm looking at all the links now.

Scott, do you use BWC? This is the first I've heard of them (I don't print much).

I use them exclusively for my film processing (35mm & MF). I have seen their output in large format and it is excellent. They are a commercial design and fulfillment operation. They might not be the cheapest, but their quality is first rate.

I don't know about the printing, I do that myself. I highly recommend Frame Destination for the framing, I use them all the time and I've done some fairly large panos with them (16x40", 15x45", even one that is 30x60" although I didn't use a mat for that one).

Their prices are reasonable, but past a certain size there's an over-size shipping fee that kicks in and really jacks up the shipping price. But they're located in Dallas so you can just swing by their storefront and pick it up. I don't know if they do mounting though, you may have to do that yourself.

An update to all the help provided.

First off, I want to be clear that it's my &$^#($% fault for taking care of this so late in the game. I get what I deserve.

MyPhotoPipe seemed to be a good choice for printing. I had to scale down the photo just a bit but no problem. They use ROES which made for easy ordering.

That said, their shipping policies leave a LOT to be desired. They give you the choice of standard shipping of $6.95 for 2-5 days which I thought would be enough, $32 for two day and $54 for next day. Turns out they couldn't get it printed and shipped the same day (1 print, standard panoramic size) so it will now arrive one day later than I needed it. I contacted them, explained what the print is for and that it's my first time ordering and they were good enough to respond the same day with an offer of $32 for getting here by Friday and $54 by Thursday. The entire order was $17.50. These were my only two options. Had they been able to send Priority, I would have gotten it in time and happily paid the bit extra it would have cost.

So needless to say, I'm screwed. And while it's my fault completely I can't help but think of Mpix, Newegg and Zappos, all of who deliver faster than they say they will. I'm spoiled and because of that MyPhotoPipe will never see another order from me.

The frame I bought local so yes, the money stayed in Texas. Unfortunately the present will be given a day late unless I can find someone who can print a 12x36 print locally (I'll be looking tomorrow).

Thanks to all for the help. There's no hard feelings about my experience since it was entirely my fault so please know I appreciate all the helpful suggestions.

Just thought you should know how it turned out.

Best,

Joe

MyPhotoPipe experience noted.

Odd that nobody in the whole DFW area can print 12x36. I bet there are hundreds of printers in folks homes collecting dust that could make that size print. Red River Paper in Dallas sells the paper. Strange. Is this a cottage business opportunity?

When it's all done and hung, show us how it looks.

I cannot believe that BWC can't handle this print. Again, price might not be the cheapest, but if you visit either of their locations, you can see the quality work they do.

Good luck!
