Ilford Inkjet Paper - 02-18-2005, 04:36 PM

I've got to share this story as it's one of those that you don't hear very often.

I've been using Ilford Galerie High Gloss 4x6 photo paper at home with my Canon i900d and it's done OK. Well, I decided to see if they had ICC profiles for the paper/printer combination and they didn't. They did have a "sign up and we'll tell you when we have it" form, so I did - expecting that it would go into a black hole.

Well, let me tell you that I got an e-mail FROM A REAL PERSON about two hours later explaining why they didn't have it (older printer, just started creating ICC profiles) and suggesting I try the one for the i960. The person also asked that if it worked, to let them know so they could update their database. They also said that if they could borrow a printer, they'd build the profile for it (the group that does this is in Switzerland - it was tempting!)

I tried it and it worked - and I let them know. I let them know that it worked and how surprised I was that they actually responded and so quickly.

So - my monitor is now caibrated and what I see on the screen is what I actually see coming out of my printer! Most importantly, I will continue to use Ilford papers based on this experience - and I highly recommend them!

That is really nice, a company that cares.
I have been using their paper and have very good luck with it. I am using the Smooth Gloss and it does a nice job. I have tried Red River and it is not as good I don't think.

Thanks for the feedback on Ilford good to know your are dealing with a good company.

I agree completely. I have been using Ilford's Smooth Gloss and Smooth Pearl with my Canon i960. Ilford has icc profiles for these and others of their papers available for download. After calibrating my LCD monitor with Optix XR, the Ilford color profile match is extremely close for my i960 printer. I'm sure it could be even better if I were to have a custom profile made. But for my purposes at this point, the available Ilford profiles serve me well. Also, the cost of the papers is quite reasonable when you buy them from Sam's Club.
