Review: Understanding Exposure

Understanding Exposure is a great book for the starting photographer and it's my most recommended book to anyone just starting out. It is very well written and has plenty of easy to understand explanations on how to fully understand exposure. It also includes many side by side photos of the same subject shot using varying settings so that you can actually see what each group of settings produce. Each photo listed the camera settings used such as shutter speed and aperture. this really helps you understand what different settings do in different situations and how it affects your depth of field etc.

If you are having a hard time grasping the idea of exposure, metering, shutter speed, aperture, ISO and how they all work together in order to produce the right exposure you're looking for then this is the book for you.

I recommend this book to pretty much everyone I know, and they have all said it was a big help. My own copy got loaned out so many times that I bought the 3rd edition when it came out. This book does an EXCELLENT job at explaining how and why the functions on your camera work and is a valuable source to have on hand.

I completely agree. I've loaned it out several times as well. In fact... Now that you mention it... I forgot who I loaned out to last. lol.

Double dittos on recommending this book. I read thru it about once a year and go through the exercises. Always an excellent source and reminder of the basics of photography.

I agree with everyone. My wife bought me this book when I first started getting serious about photography. It certainly sped up my understanding of exposure. I have come across many great photography books, but this is a must have for the beginner.

The best book to understand the complexity of exposure, in an easy, very easy way, I keep it with me all the time. There is another one written by the same author, understanding shutter speed

I bought this book last night, and am extremely impressed. This is the first book I have read that actually makes it easy to learn. Most other books, I am bored to death, and haven't learned anything within the first three chapters. Great Suggestion!!

The 2nd Edition was really handy too, so if you find that one it is still a good deal.
