Review: Lowepro Flipside 300
I have owned a few bags now and I have been sticking with the LowePro bags since I have been very happy with the quality and price. As my camera kit evolved from an A100 and a couple used Minolta lenses into the mess it is now, my bag needs have changed and probably will keep doing so. I wouldn't say any of there is perfect, but each plays its role well.
I bought my
Lowepro Flipside 300 in 2009. I have also owned a smaller LowePro shoulder bag, a Tamrac Velocity 8, and now also own a Crumpler 4 Million Dollar Home.

Summary:
Overall, I have been very happy with the construction, fit and adjustment range of this backpack. I have never had any issue using the wide range of adjustment of the straps to allow me to carry a lot of heavy gear comfortably.
This is my daily use bag and the bag that replaced my Tamrac Velocity 8. The main compartment of this bag is held shut against your back, preventing any unauthorized access. It is very comfortable with its contoured shape and well padded back. It includes a soft pouch that allows you to carry a tripod on the back, and it tucks away neatly when not in use. I typically carry the gripped A900 + 24-70, 16-35 and 70-200G in it. It also includes a removable pouch at the top of the compartment which is great for filters, cards, batteries and even the occasional 24/2.8. I have even gotten into the habit of fitting this bag into a check bag with clothes packed in it, using my Fastpack to get my gear and laptop to where I am going, then using this one once there. I also often carry my
Benro TRCB269 Travel Angel tripod on the back and forget it is there until I hit it on something.
Function:
In regards to capacity, I usually pack the following:
- Sony A900 + Grip
- Sony 24-70 f/2.8 Zeiss (Mounted, Hood Reversed)
- Sony 16-35 f/2.8 Zeiss (Hood Reversed)
- Sony 70-200 f/2.8 G (Hood Reversed)
- Gepe Card Case (4 CF Cards)
- 77mm CPL and ND with cases
- Benro TRCB269 Tripod (Attached to Back)
Available Colors: The Verdict:
The Flipside is my everyday bag. Small enough to not get in the way, handy enough to carry key gear AND a tripod, and kept my gear dry despite several hours of shooting in mild to heavy rain.
