If your not using this lens on a FF camera and don't shoot at f/2.8 then the 17-40 is just as good as the Tokina 16-28 or the Canon 16-35 stopped down.

The 17-40 works great on the MKIV but is challenged in the corners on the 1DsMKIII or 5D MKII. If you don't need the f/2.8 save yourself some money and get the 17-40.
