Review: Dakine Sequence Camera Backpack

From the moment I noticed Dakine Sequence Camera Backpack while working in retail at a local snowboard shop here in Michigan one thing was certain, I knew I had to have this bag! I highly recommend this bag to anyone in the Action Sports Community or the photographers in the rugged outdoors looking to carry a well-built camera backpack.

Features:
  • Inside the bag is a removable Camera block (2in1 bag design)
  • Zipped in Deployable Rain Cover
  • Tripod Straps
  • Padded laptop storage
  • Back entry zippers to access photography equipment
  • Extremely well padded
  • Padded waist belt
  • Hard shelled back brace to protect gear and your back!

Specifications:
  • Width: 11 inches
  • Height: 21 inches
  • Depth: 8 inches
  • Volume: 2,000 cubic inches
  • Weight: 5 lbs

Summary:

I have used this particular bag for over three years now and have NEVER had any complaints. The best part about it for myself as an avid snowboarder of 11 years is all the space this bag has to offer. Honestly finding a bag that will allow me to carry my camera and a few lenses on the inside well protected, Snowboard on the back while hiking, Water bottle on the outside, Avalanche Probes, spare goggles on the top pouch, snacks, plus more is hands down what its all about!

Function:

The back entry into the bags camera compartment is honestly the main selling point, well for me it was anyways. After taking the bag off your shoulders, lay it down on the front of the bag and access your gear via the one main zipper located on the entire backside of the bag. It’s at this point that you realize your allowing yourself to not only layout your bag conveniently wide open, but you also have a buffer to the ground. If it’s a wet surface, sand, grit or snow it’s not a problem, just deploy the rain fly and cover the front of the bag to protect it. Also if you want or need an inside buffer to the elements unzip the inside camera block which has its own main zipper allowing for a second material to cover your equipment when first opening the bag. The camera block main compartment door can also be tucked into the padded brace or shell of the pack portion of the main bag.

On the inside of the camera block are adjustable padding blocks that attach with Velcro for adjustability. The overall security and padding of this bag is well made and thought out in design. Arranging it to fit your bodies or lenses it not a problem. Over all I would say you can fit three or four lenses and one body or a few bodies and one or two lenses. It honestly depends what lenses your shooting with. So that covers the inside of the bag!

On the sides of the exterior of the pack you have two main compartments for water bottles or something of that nature. I use it for sun screen spray, nalgene bottle, Avalanche probes, maps, etc. On the front of the pack are two main compartments and a smaller one that is fleece lined. On the inside of the largest pouch is semi weather sealed plastic material pouches for Memory Cards, and below are two long zippered pouches for batteries, charger, manuals, Caps, etc.

On the main top potion of the pack is an easily accessible compartment that allows you to store snacks, phones, keys, chap stick, or any small every day items with quick access. You could also use this to temporally set down lens caps, hoods, or a extra battery pack for a quick on the fly change. On the bottom of the pack are two main straps that buckle together for support and a thin one across the top chest for stability and security while hiking or riding. On the bottom two straps are little zippered pouches for a filter, Tripod tools, knife, or anything small.

The Verdict:

Over all this bag will have you filling every zipper, pouch, nook and cranny to take full advantage of the space and security this bag has to offer! The price of the bag is well worth every penny and it will show over the years as it withstands some brutal impacts. I am sure I am missing a few little details about this bag, but that just goes to show how much there is to talk about with the Dakine Sequence Bag. It is truly a must have camera backpack for any outdoors or action sports photographer!

I hope this review was useful, if you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will make sure to answer them all. Thank you for reading my review and let me know if you pick one up.

Jeremy
