The ST-e2 can control only two slaves, and the 580 only 3. At least if you want to change settings on the slaves. Does this mean that this is my limitation for the number of slaves I can control with the P1?

What if I don't want to use ettl? How do you use these if you wanted to use them the same way you would a pocket wizard?

Just to be clear, the ST-E2 can control only two slave GROUPS. I regularly have 3, 4, 5 speedlights running.

I don't see a hotshoe on top of the RP. How do you connect both a 580 and an RP to your camera to control the slave?

The St-E2 can only control two groups (A & B), no limit how many slave strobes in the group. A 550, 580 can control three groups (A, B,&C) no limit on how many strobes per group. the P1 will send the same data the master sends it just translates the IR data to radio transmitted data.

They are also coming out with the p1 JR that will work just as a wireless trigger, no ettl.
But there are plenty of products out right now that does that.
