Is it me or is the exif data seem strange? I am assuming the 1st shot was with flash.
I am still waiting for my set of poppers. Bummer as I could have used them this Saturday with a shoot. Oh well.

Was the first shot what you were trying to accomplish with the poppers? I would have thought the look to get was the second shot by using the poppers in bright light. No big deal, just curious.

I am confused by the example. Exposure in and of itself (as you had it set) would have made a significant difference. I am having a hard time understanding the RadioPopper/Flash relevance?
Perhaps I need to think a bit more...brain not comprehending.

Andrew, the radio poppers are intended to shine in bright outdoor settings using off camera flash or in a situation where you want to keep ttl/ettl communication between the camera and flash and the event setting doesnt allow the IR to function. The beauty of these is to get off camera flash with on camera convenience. The example above show the flash will work using high speed sync (1/4000) which is a huge advantage in harsh light situations. (i dont think his shoot was in such lighting though) It helps you keep the camera involved in determining the needed light from flash instead of manually setting the output if you want it that way. By being able to use high speed sync you are able to shoot wide open on bright days and not blow the highlights in the background and still get the nice bokeh from shooting wide open versus stopping the lens down. Thats the theory at least. I am still waiting on my set to get here and I could sure use them for the coming weeks. Bummed I dont have them already.

Thanks Scott.. I knew about the high speed sync thing and all.. I was actually thinking that the example was more about what direct flash would look like vs. balanced. I wasn't considering that it was a shutter speed demonstration utilizing flash.
It looked to me like the second one was just shot with proper balanced exposure outside at manageable shutterspeeds.
On a side note, that is some interesting 3 flash setup... When I need that much power, I just take a monolight/quantum...but no TTL that way...
As soon as they come out with the multi-channel version, I'll probably pick up a pair.

I have seen the 2 light head setup talked about and the guy that came up with this said it was so that he could dial down the power on the flashes yet still get normal amount of light spread wider. He said that by dialing it down the battery usage was less as well as a faster recycle time. Pretty pricy setup if you are buying 580 exII's | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
