Wow, is there really nothing going around SA right now? Or is everyone just.. gone?

The closest event I can think of is Dia de los Muertes, but that's not until Nov 1-2.

This is when you make lemonade, Damon:

A hill country stream at slow shutter.
The cliffs over Guadalupe State Park. Or the cypress trees there.
The interior of Sunset Station. Or the exterior. (with or without train)
A time-lapse of traffic along the loop. Or downtown. Or anywhere.
Some details on the riverwalk. Or the Missions. or anywhere.

I agree that there sometimes seems like there isn't much to do in San Antonio! It's especially true during the summer months. But with fall coming on, there should be more fun photo ops coming up.

I know it's too late now, but Jazz'SAlive 2009 was last weekend. (See my thread over in the People forum for a couple of photos: http://www.TexasPhotoForum.com/forum...d.php?t=108897)

On Saturday Sept 26th. the Botanical Gardens are having their Gardens by Moonlight event.

It can be really challenging to even find out what events are coming up. I don't know how many times I've missed an event just because I didn't know about it. I wish I could find a good event calendar for San Antonio!

It's been really hot this summer, and now with minimal sun flares, it seems like it's cooler. I, too, cannot come up suggestions of places to go stand in front of to get my fix in pressing the shutter button. All this gear, (not really a lot), and no place to go. Having the time off to do any photo shoots is not looking good either.

I have given thought to heading out toward Bandera or even Canyon Lake's Hwy 306 (??). There's plenty of landscape, buildings and other stuff to photograph along the way. But, for large groups, that entails lots of stoppages and maybe even the use of a large 13 passenger van to make it memorable.

I don't want to make a professional level outing. KISS means to some, Keep It Simple Stupid. Don't you just want to gather, show off your hardware, and if you have any, your skills or technical knowledge? Yeah, your are going to perspire and get uncomfortable, but fun makes up for the discomfort. Cold drinks, in one form or another, will help, but these are not mandatory. I just want to exercise my gear and artistic abilities.

Anybody recall any parks, or easy-to-access landscapes, cattle farms, ranches, hillsides, old-looking townships, etc that are not too far from SA? Places where we won't meet with Homeland Security officers and the like? I know Murph mentioned Martindale in another thread, but is that all they got there?

A Saturday or Sunday morning for the squeamish is good for me. The wife can bear a few hours of my absence. Don't you just want to put that 5D or D300 to use and PhotoShop some images for upload to the SA forum?
