Well, I spent a good hour out any my family's old lake which has been turned into a park. They did a great job on it, and I'll be posting some photos of the place. A very bittersweet trip because I remembered all the times out here at the lake.

Spent the day there again today with the kids. Took some photos that I feel good about. The D2X and 1-24mm has been a great combination. Photos probably late tomorrow.

Sure there is no way to recover the photos or at least part of them?

Speaking with my husband right now, and he suggests trying to pulling the hard drive to see if you can slave it in another system. You might be able to pull off the 'nonessential' stuff. Know anyone with a SATA drive? (Don't ask me, I'm just relaying)

Sorry, Murph. That really sucks - I've had that happen before. Will the drive boot at all? Do you have the option to get into Safe Mode? Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Best regards,
Dave

Ouch! Had a similar thing happen close two years ago. Took the hard drive up to place in Austin that specializes in recovery and let me tell you it isn't cheap!

For a 1 TB GB recovery they were asking $3200. So I decided to drown in my tears and let the 1's and 0's go free. After that I bought several drives that all backup off one another all the time. All others please learn from my lesson and BACKUP!

My heart goes for you brother!

No joy, but Rson has offered to make the attempt at recovery. Computer will not see the images, best guess is the mbr or fat tables got whacked. Lupe and her sister are livid. The guy who built the system is coming over this week to pull the drives and do maintenance on the computer. Then shipped to Fort Worth. Five years of every photo I have taken is not there anymore.

Bummer Murph. Have you considered an online backup solution. Or perhaps a mirroring Hard disk setup..

Murph if it makes you feel any better the only time I have lost everything was when a mechanical failure happened. In my cases if the drive would spin I would normally get it back. Last time I recovered over 23,000 images with about 8 hrs of work and $600 in software to repair the problem. There are several threads on here discussing file recovery options

I hope you get them back!!!
