I should be able to make it. That's a long haul for you SA folks; you getting up really early or coming over the night before?

You might want to post a link in the Houston forum, since a lot of Houston folks may not see this otherwise.

I went on the 'Hard Hat' tour of the Battleship Texas last December with The Woodlands Photography Club. That's the special tour they give that goes places that the normal public tours don't go..

Something to be aware of-
If you are going below decks on a guided photo tour they will not allow you take a big backpack. It won't fit. In fact only a very small camera bag that you can hold close to you at your front. Maybe no bag at all- just the camera, lens, and flash works best.
The reason is that you will be going up and down very small Navy ladders (metal stairs) with no extra room at all. Some of the hatchways are also only big enough to let you through, not you + a lot of gear.

What was most handy below decks was a wide angle zoom and a good flash unit. Even then the zoom should not be very large.

Think 'crawling through a submarine'. Even though it's a battleship, below decks it gets that way.

Have fun.

BTW- The 'Hard Hat' tour has to be arranged in advance and costs $30 as of last December.

Well rats, I was hoping you could make it. I am thinking of bringing the 24mm PC-E lens and attempting some shots with it.

I have the dreaded "previous commitment".

Doesn't look as I will be able to shake it.
