You might also want to try the Monte Vista area. It is considered a Historic Neighborhood.
You could possibly to SanAntonio.gov and check there map section out to see where the city's historic designations are located. That might give you some ideas.

Helotes, TX on Bandera Rd north of Loop 1604. There's a Scenic Loop Rd that passes by a large cluster of mailboxes. From Bandera Rd where it starts, it will eventually lead to Boerne, TX on IH-10.

Last week, I was looking for a nursery along FM 78. I started from Pat Booker Rd at Randolph AFB and eventually I was in Marion, TX. A few minutes of driving around should do. There's lots of old houses there. But, people live in them.
