I am thinking about a one camera/one lens day for me D700 and 50mm. It will be best for early morning due to heat, etc. So where do we meet, the Alamo or the Starbucks?

Depending on when I get up, I plan on being there pretty early to get some pre-dawn Alamo shots.

Alright. I think I might just be able to make this one and meet some of the locals. Wife and daughter will be out of town so possibly a good way to spend the morning before I have to get started on homework. Been wanting to put my new Tamron 28-75 2.8 to test and see what it can do.

Interesting comment on permit requirements. I sent a message to the San Antonio Film Commission/San Antonio Convention & Visitors Bureau requesting clarification on permits required for commercial still photography sessions on the River Walk or city parks. The response was that I needed the permit and the majority of the time a payment is not required for the session. I did not ask her about non-commercial permit requirements. We had a member of this forum post the other day about being stopped by the Park Police and asking for a permit. Maybe we should request some guidance from the San Antonio Film Commission and ask her the question about permits.
Sent a message to Janet Vasquez asking for guidance.

Just got off the phone with Janet (she is so nice and helpful). She has supplied me with permits in the past and is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that you have what you need to get your shots.

She said that when shooting in the Alamo Plaza area a permit is needed (free for non-Commercial). If we are on the the Alamo property (from the curb on...) we will need another type of permit (non-Commercial as well). At this point Janet believes that the second permit is free as well but is double checking for me. She is also going to be sending me a map of what areas the permits are good for as well as the link for that second permit.

She suggested when we get our permit from her office that we make copies so that no one will be without, but that we only need to apply for one.

I will keep you informed.

I sent Janet an e-mail right after I posted and she did confirm that permits were required. Daniel, thanks for calling...this answers the question about the city requirements.
