A little history of this place. My great grandfather built all this. There were 1,000 acres on the place, and three beautiful cedar wood lake houses. There was a boat house that could hold two boats, and a BBQ area. The lake was about 50 acres in size. In the 1970's it all changed, the druggies came in, shot the gates up, broke down the gates, and then burned all three houses to the ground, shot up the boat house so that it fell in. Both boats were burned and sunk. The BBQ area was smashed with hammers or something. The lake was stocked with fish, and a great fishing area. There were deer, squirrels, etc. By the late 1970's we could not go out there unless there were at least two, and we were armed. It was so sad. Back in the 1930's, 40's 50's and 60's the family kept horses out there, and there was a little corral which was used for firewood by the scumbags.

My cousins went out one day, and while fishing had their truck windows smashed, and everything stolen. They saw the guys, and could not get to shore fast enough. So in 1989 the family, after being sued by the tresspasser who got hurt (we won sort of, paid the guy $25,000 to go away), they sold all the land since they could not afford the liability insurance, and were told by their lawyers that it was an "attractive nuisance", and no matter how many no-tresspassing signs were up, we were liable if anyone got hurt out there. It was just so beautiful when we could go out and spend the day and there was nothing to worry about. At least the industrial park which bought it, maintained and preserved the lake.

Murph, the pictures look really nice and the story is a sad one... I like the last 2 especially... but I might like the red maple, too, if I can see it on my regular computer... I'm looking at it on my wife's netbook.

Just got these processed. The Synagogue is in Corsicana, and has been restored. It was one of the larger Jewish Centers in that part of Texas. Some survivors of Operation Texas.
Note: I could not clone out the power lines, too tired.

Great shots Murph, thank-you for sharing. My favorite is #1, it just reminds me of winter. Here is a warm-up photo for you.

Beautiful pictures, Murph! That really is a sad story about the place, though. I'll bet it was really nice to revisit some old memories. Thanks for sharing a part of your past with us.

Really like 2 & 3 from the first set.

The Navarro Court House is nice also.

Murph, my wife and I passed through Corsicana last weekend and, had I had the time, I was going to scout out that synagogue. I had read about its history before and thought it might make a good subject for some architectural detail shots. I like the fall colors in all of these.

I'm not sure but I don't think that Dave was on the same outing you were on... LOL!

It is right across the street from the HEB grocery store. Call ahead to make sure it is unlocked, it was closed when I went there. I understand it is supposed to be amazing.
