Westcave Preserve - 04-13-2011, 09:38 PM

Has anybody been to Westcave Preserve? I saw this in the Express-News a couple months ago. It requires some hiking abilities. I have not read yet if they allow cameras and tripods.

I am going to be off next Wed-Thu-Fri. It's far from SA. I sure would not like to go it alone.

I should test myself to see if I am physically fit to carry a select list of gear. It's about a mile of rough terrain in what may be a hot day.

Hey, what am I thinking? I don't make the decisions...alone. First, I gotta check with the wifey to see if she thinks her "old" man can do this.

Anybody off on any of these days?

My schedule is currently open those days. I'll check out the website. You have my cell# don't you?

Ken, I do not have your cell#.

I just saw that they are open on weekdays only by making a reservation. That probably means they expect to see a crowd and not two people.

Looks like I would have to wait for a weekend instead. Never mind about next week.

We did it a couple of years ago. The hike is not that hard. We hiked on a weekday and I think that there was 5 or 6 in our group. They are doing it because of damage that people have caused.

Then, there is hope. All we need is 3 or more people. I will give them a call as to what "by reservation only" entails.

Anybody else want to go? The website shows some nice natural scenery. This time of the year the foliage should be a pretty green.

I faintly recall that the newspaper suggested there is a good Cajun food restaurant close by.

Great place. There is a hike from the main building to the cave. Maybe a 1/4 mile or so but a lot of steps made from stone (if I remember correctly). The view under the waterfall was awesome when I had a chance to go.
