There are a few nice longer term motel/apt outfits near the Medical Center that run less than $300 a week. If interested, I'll find the names for you.

When my son was 6 days old he had open heart surgery and I lived at Ronald McDonald House for a few weeks, it is a great place to stay. That was 7 years ago, it was something crazy cheap like $10 a day plus you had one chore. I found 3 in San Antonio here are the links to maps.

TX San Antonio 227 Lewis Street - Google Maps

TX San Antonio 4803 Sid Katz - Google Maps

TX San Antonio 4803 Sid Katz - Google Maps

And this link has the phone numbers Chapter Search

Good luck and my thoughts and prayers are with you, her, and family!

I use Priceline.com and it's worked out great for me so far. Got a great deal in Houston and Galveston. You should be able to book something nice for fairly reasonable. Good luck and the speedy recovery to your wife.

The chain I was looking for is Studio 6 which is related to the Motel 6 chain. The rooms are quite nice, better than the motel version and run just over $40 a night, including tax. And it is just three or four minutes from most Med Center hospitals. If you are at Ft. Sam Houston or Lackland, you may have better luck and logistics at the military base quarters.

That Studio Six is about six blocks from the hospital. Best to your wife and you.

As a aside, I had three vessel open heart bypass April of 2010. None of the pre-surgery horror stories were true. No pain, no nausea did feel fatigued and weak but that was about it. The fatigue gradually abated over the next couple months. Upon discharge some irritation of the scar - itching and tenderness but that is about it. Have not taken the first prescribed pain Rx since discharge.

This has recently been released by NIM/NIH and is generally not known:

San Antonio Extended Stay Living | San Antonio Short Term Apartments | San Antonio Temporary Housing

Used them when I moved to OKC a few years ago, pretty nice digs. Best of luck to you and your wife.

Have you considered asking the hospital administrative staff for help in finding accommodations in the area?

I know that the Methodist hospital system offers help with that. I even think they have discounts worked out with some area hotels. Just a thought...

All the best to you and your family.

Good point Lewis. The wife had quadruple bypass in May 2010 and was walking around 4 hours later and now the mitral valve has a severe leak plus congestive heart failure So far there is a Dr. in San Antonio that has had some success in slowing the leakage. They told me there is a 20% survival rate on replacing or repairing the valve itself.

We're hoping for the best

Take Care

Cleveland Clinic is always an excellent place to get current practices in Cardiac Surgery.
Their link to mitral valve surgery. Mitral Valve Repair

I wish her and you a successful technical and clinical procedure.
