Michael,

I highly suggest the Hwy 4 between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. It's a must drive! Long though.. You'll find this church and others off the beaten path. There are waterfalls and many other great landscape shots awaiting you! :) This is the most beautiful part of NM IMO.

Good luck!

Stayed at a B&B in Chimayo both close to the mission and restaurant. Rented through Oveido's next door $100. Per night.

One mission I have visited is the Pecos National Monument/ Historical Park. Close to Santa Fe, NM, about 30 miles or so North East. Pecos National Historical Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Another mission happened upon is on I-40 between Albuquerque and Grants, NM north side both sides of the road have overlooks. The mission highest structure is easily seen.

Lewis,

That's sweet! We didn't make it past Santa Fe as the drive up 4 took almost all day and we wanted to visit Santa Fe for some shopping and food. It's a great part of the country if you want to shoot some really neat pics.

Thanks for posting, I will have to get up there some day...
