Snake Farm

This is a discussion on Snake Farm within the San Antonio forums, part of the Texas category; I paid a visit to the Snake Farm on IH-35 in New Braunfels yesterday. It's well, okay... Not really ideal ...

Snake Farm - 07-23-2007, 01:25 PM

I paid a visit to the Snake Farm on IH-35 in New Braunfels yesterday. It's well, okay... Not really ideal for photographers in my opinion, due to the fact that most of the animals are confined to cages with small bars and chain link fences. Here's a few shots that I took:

That's so funny! One of their exhibits had this huge alligator and right beside him was this exhibit of chickens. He was just laying there staring at the chickens. Man, I felt so sorry for him. Who knows what they were thinking with that!

Thanks for the compliments!

cool pictures. I've always wanted to stop there. Now, I'll need to.

If you watch Discovery Channel, Mike Rowe's Dirty Jobs did a really funny episode there. In my opinion, one of his best. Definately worth watching next time its on.

Really good pictures. The second one is my favorite. What kind of animal is that?

Yeah, that's kinda what prompted me to go. But the place has been packed ever since the episode. I had to park on the frontage road of IH-35. Tons of people there all the time! It was a really great episode. I think it'll be on again August 11th.

Oh, the second one is what's called a Patagonian Mara or Patagonian Cavy. It's like a large rabbit. Thanks!!

The Snake Farm was fun, I was there during the first week of July when my father was in town....had to do something since it was raining. While I was there, my wife wanted me to take her picture with some animal that was up on the souviner counter (forgot the name) and while it was on her shoulder, it peed every where! Got it in one of the shots....priceless.

Hey did you guys know the snake farm was shown on that Discovery show "Dirty Jobs". It was pretty funny. They had the guy cleaning out the snake pits and the alligators pond. I think some new people just bought it and they are actually going to change the name of it...

I've seen that sign and always wondered what the heck that place was like! One of these days I'll have to go. Great shots!
