Nice. We missed it this year, when was it advertized?

Also (totally off topic) what is the point of the turn up on the edge of the brim of the sombrero?

We went there during Fiesta week in April. This link will take you to their web site. It looks like August 21st is the next one.

I ask a Mexican (my wife) about the hat being turned up. "Don't know".

I asked my father in law, and his comment was unprintable. My mother in law, told me a tall tale, so I still don't know why the brims turn up. Lupe doesn't know either. Oh well.

I forget where I heard it. It's for when they suddenly fall backwards hitting the ground. The brim hits first thus protecting the back of the head. They have to have the chin strap on for that to be effective. Normally, mariachis don't have that turned up brim.

Last night, I saw that there schedule included July 17, a Sunday, as the next event. The sun will be very bright and their faces will probably be shadowed. The colorful outfits are great to photograph. Take a long lens as there might be some folkloric dancing across on the other side of the arena.
