Love that last image, John!! How are you liking that Sigma 85 1.4?? I am hearing/seeing mixed results, although I tend to believe negative reports are the result of user error.

I'm enjoying the lens so far. However, due to being sick, all I've been able to shoot is around the house. I'm hoping to get out this weekend for some real testing. I read several reviews and watched one video review before deciding to get it. I can tell you that it produces extremely sharp images (the one above has little applied in post), and the focusing seems to be quick. I do not, however, have the Canon 85 1.2 to compare. I still need to do a focus test with a chart to make sure it isn't back- or front-focusing.

More to come.

Great shot! Looking forward to seeing more from this lens.
I love the Canon 85mm 1.2, it's my favorite lens ever, but the AF leaves a lot to be desired. Hoping Sigma hit a home run with this one.

Thanks, Jake, me too! I was skeptical at first given the price difference between the two lenses, but most of the reports are good. I'm looking forward to doing more with it.

I don't know about the 50, but the 85 is solid with a rubbery finish. All the reviews I read gave it high marks for build quality, and they're right.

I've used it over the past weekend. All I can say is it's awesome. I think it beats the Canon in price, faster focus, good sharpness. My canon 85L is forsale now.

I'm finding it to be nice and sharp as well. I've added a second image to my original post without sharpening for comparison.

Those that have this lens...does your lens make a loud noise while trying to focus? Louder than a traditional USM? I've also found that this lens makes reds much richer.

It's quick to focus for sure but getting used to shooting so wide will take some practice.

I wouldn't say that it's "loud" when focusing. Can I hear it? Yes, but it doesn't bother me. I haven't noticed more red in images produced by it, but it is possible that it gives warmer images than a Canon lens. This was the case a few years ago, when I owned a Sigma 18-50 F2.8, and it might be inherent in all Sigma optics.
