I really like this lens. It's not the sharpest thing wide open, but it's acceptable.

Both are untouched, just cropped/resized:

350D, f16, 1/180Sec., 70mm, ISO 100, on-camera flash -2

350D, f2.8, 1/500Sec., 70mm, ISO 100

No, this is not the same lens.

The Nikkor / Nikon has superior glass, build quality, AF.

Glass: Nikon's Nanocoating vs. Sigma's paint thinner and sparkle glue (just kidding)
But Nikon's glass engineering is much much better, the Sigma has a tendency to flare easily (and the included hood doesn't do much for that).

Build quality: Metal body, no focus clutch vs. Metal body in some rubbery texture, focus clutch prone to damage

AF: Nikon's silent wave motor, near silent focusing and much much faster than Sigma's noisy DC motor which is much slower.

I sold my Sigma, even on a pro level body (1D) the AF was too slow for my likings (sports usually). However, the price of the Sigma beats it out... There's a new HSM version that just became available, $800-900 range.
