Film Section? - 05-29-2009, 10:00 AM

Ok film buffs, let's here it. Who's for a new sub-section for discussions on film, processing, print making, and all things analog? I'd also like to see scanning and digital processing issues specifically for negatives and transparencies included.

Let's hear it!!!

I keep hoping that Able will figure this out. Grinning.

In the meantime, I just keep plugging away here and there.

First, it's Wayne "plugging away here and there." Then, it's Stovall posting a link to a "Shoot Leica w/single lens and one type of b/w film for a year" article. Now, this. I wonder if there's a red dot somewhere in my future...

It doesn't matter if it's a red dot or a Holga.

Shoot some film while you still can. It's fun!!!

Also, you have to bulk-load and develop your own film. Also enlarge and print on your own. No scanning.

Got a film camera on the way. EOS Elan 7e. Should be fun. I think I sold a Elan 7 in 2003 to finance some digital equipment. I also think I have a Holga hidden around here somewhere.

Scott,

Do you develop your own films and print? Any recommendations where one can get them processed (especially 120 films) in the DFW area. Not just the C-41 process but processing for the specialty films, too.

Would appreciate any pointers on this.

Thanks, Milind

I would love to hear how to set a blackroom and how to develop prints using C-41 or E-6.

I recently found my dads Canon AE-1 I've been having more fun with it than my D300, which is kind of dusty at the moment.

Wait a sec, you mean everyone on this forum DOESN'T shoot film?

I am all for it, I have fun with both film and digital and just started developing my own B&W 35mm (first time in 25 years) and 4x5 (first time ever), lots of fun. Should have a 4x5 scanner in a week or so, already have a dedicated 35mm scanner.

I use BWC Imaging for all my film processing. They have B&W, C-41, and E-6 lines on site in their Dallas location (Maple & Medical Center Dr.). All the film I shoot is 120, so I know they process all three.

Thanks, I'll locate the center. Had bought some Porta to try out an RB-67. Shot one slidefilm and gave up. Your Alexandria series has sure motivated me to give it a try again.

In the good old days (I'm dating myself now) we used to over expose and underdevelop Ilford FP4's to achieve the soft and enhanced grey scale. This was all possible when I could develop B/W at home. Do you try any of those techniques?

I believe you can specify push or pull processing and BWC will do the job. They may charge a little extra, but I don't experiment that way for portraiture. I'll hopefully be shooting some Fuji Astia this week and trying out the E6 line...

These were done on Kodak TMax 100 with the Hassy and processed by BWC...

Portra is quite a nice film, the 160VC and 400VC are really sharp, contrasty, and saturated especially in the 120 format.

400VC on a Hasselblad 500cm / 80mm Planar:
