Picture Posting Questions - 08-20-2009, 01:58 PM

Once you've uploaded pics to the gallery how do you delete them? If you want to make a change (title, category, etc.) how do you edit them? How long do pictures stay in the archive?

What is the best way to get someone to make suggestions and comments on an uploaded image. It seems that there are lots of viewers and few commentors.

Is there any protection against people downloading your posted image and using it commercially?

Can you move pictures back and forth from your profile albums to the gallery?

Thanks

Yeah, and on a side note, why can't I see any attachments?

Allright, I figured out how to edit pictures after they are uploaded. Hard to find though and only on the large image screen.

I still wonder about all the lack of ratings or comments on posted pictures. Is there some unspoken conspiracy or is it just apathy. I decided that even though I am not really qualified professionally I am going to leave a trail of comments behind. Hello to all you other newbees out there.

Not many of the regulars use that feature of the galleries and prefer to leave comments in threads started by the image maker. I didn't even know about it until someone some months back brought up the same "apathy" concern and I noticed we could leave comments there too.

Some people are hesitant to offer critques and constructive criticism unless it's specifically asked for (no sense in ruffling someone's feathers when they were just wanting to share some shots they liked). So if you want that kind of feedback on your photos, be sure to ask for it.

I think some people may find the thought of critiquing photos intimidating, or feel that they're not "qualified" to offer feedback beyond a 'nice shot' comment. IMHO you don't need special qualifications to know what you do or don't like. If you can describe what it is that you like or dislike about a photo, why not share your thoughts?

It can also take some effort to write a good critique, and some people may be unwilling or unable to take the time to leave detailed feedback.

Please do. The more who participate in the gallery forums, the better. And let's be honest; there is a certain quid-pro-quo element to these forums. The more you participate in others' threads, the more others are likely to participate in your threads. It's only human nature. It's not so much that people trade compliments tit for tat; but actively participating in the forums makes you a part of the community here, and people will recognize that.

Thanks Jeff and Erik for your feedback. I came in to this forum wanting interaction with other people that had a love for beauty and photos. I posted some images and then wondered why if someone view the photo they would leave some feedback. I realized that there were very few postings that ever got any feedback in the gallery. That promped my comment about apathy. I am going to try a new thread with an image or two and see how that goes. Thanks again!

I didn't even notice you were talking about the gallery feature here. To be honest I've never really looked at the Gallery feature, nor uploaded any of my own pictures there. If it's interaction you want, the Showcase forums are the best way IMHO.
