I don't know what was said about the 5 stars since it is now gone, but there was a problem going on in the Nature and Wildlife forum. Someone apparently thought it was funny to go through and assign 5 stars to a lot of threads and then 2 stars to some. Or else it was just a plain out attack. It seemed as if the people getting the 2 stars were the same and it was sort of an attack. The people getting the low ratings were getting their feelings hurt. I couldn't see any merit in the assignment of the ratings. It might have been just a joke gone bad from what I could tell, but humor at the expense of others just isn't funny.

In any case, the ratings system is not working. It only allows one person to rate the thread and then it is closed and that one rating becomes the forever rating of that thread. Not a very good way to do it. I've asked that it be looked into, but I guess it isn't high enough on the importance list to get looked at yet. Eventually I'm sure Abel will have time to address it.

The Pm you sent me stated that you were getting 3 stars and you found that offensive. I can not do anything about that. Star ratings are opinion based so I can not control how members rate a thread. Rest assured that I have checked the ratings on various threads in that sectio nand they are not all done by the same member.

Now the fact that when someone has rated a thread that it does not allow anyone else to rate that thread is a problem. That was not mentioned in your PM but has been mentioned here on this thread. That will be looked into for sure.

Having just gotten back from a well deserved 5 day vacation I will give it a look today.

I still feel that self-deprecating humor should, however, still be permitted. However, once the old age begins to set-in in earnest, and I begin hiding my own Easter Eggs, I may want to reconsider.

Is there any fix for this? The rating system still only accepts one vote and then it closes down and "reports" to everyone else that they have already voted when they have not.

The attack is still going on and it is not funny or in keeping with this forum. If the rating system was just fixed, at least the rest of us could dilute out the attacker's rating and make the resulting rating more credible.

If you can't fix it, can you at least do one of the following:
(My preference is #1.)

1. Disable it completely.
2. Immediately assign 5 stars to every thread automatically.
3. Force the program to show who rated the thread. I think the coward that is playing these games will not play anymore when his or her identity is revealed. I believe that ratings (just like polls) should be public. If someone cannot stand behind his or her rating, then they shouldn't push the button.

4. Realize that the stars ratings system doesn't work and doesn't matter and ignoring it.

I've been here more than 5 years and 12K posts and I think I've rated a thread 5 times... 3 of which were just now when I was trying to see how it wasn't working. I've lived without it.
