Link popups and google ads? - 12-22-2009, 01:03 PM

Hello. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, but is this new where random words have unrelated links that popup? This is really annoying...anyway to turn it off? It is manageable when I have a mouse, but if using a slow computer, or a trackpad on a laptop, it is REALLY annoying.

Also, the google ads post summary is also pretty annoying. I suspect this is to make the site make money...and I can't really complain since I am a mooch here (not a premier) member. But if becoming one will hide these new annoyances, I may definitely reconsider.

And if it is just me and everybody else loves these new features, I will crawl back under my rock wheres I came from! ;)

Thanks!!

Well, I wouldn't call it a popup, but a rollover.

When I posted my message yesterday, it was ok. Now today, it looks like it has been indexed with Google Ads...and their are "hot words" that have been automatically linkified???? Like laptop and money are links for me.

Very annoying.

Tell me these will go away if I pay for premium????

Actually Drew the google ads and text links only show up for UNregistered users...

Once you login in under your account those ads go away... viola!

Its just an incentive for unregistered members to register and if they choose not to then at least we can generate a little revenue in order to help pay the server/software bills which is like a monthly car note... =)

Very interesting! Thanks for clearing this up for me. I am not sure why, but my login cookie keeps forgetting me. Might be a new computer (thanks Hal) I have been using off and and on that is making me re-authenticate when I get back to one of my other computers, etc.

Thanks!!

Firefox, with certain add-ons will kill those ads whether you are logged in or not as well as all the other 'things' you don't want to see. You can customize it for your viewing needs.

Our site relies heavily on the advertising dollars our forum sponsors provide to us in order to pay for our monthly server fees, bandwidth charges, software licenses, additional 3rd party software etc. So invoking these types plugins will in essence not display those ads which if everyone started to do that, that will cause our current sponsors to withdraw their advertising because of the ad impression dropoff leaving the financial burden of maintaining this site strictly on myself. Carrying that sort of burden on my own is not an option and could certainly lead to the site closing its doors...

To all, So if youre not logged in. let the google/text ads display. If you are logged in. let the forum sponsor ads display. Dont be a complete leech take from us and not let us make a little revenue in order to pay our overhead costs..

Many people forget that Advertising money is what helps keep this site going on a day to day basis.

Good for you Abel. I know the cost of these forums, servers, hosting, license, support and every little bit helps.

Notice them about a month ago.

I think I saw you at the Grammys last night; way up in the rafters. lol
