EVENT: January's Group Shoot - 12-17-2004, 09:22 AM

Photographers - The next open group TFP shoot will be Sunday, January 16th, in Round Rock, TX. There will be approximately 35-40 models and actors available to be photographed. Amateur and professional photographers alike are invited to come participate. This is "TFP," so you are responsible for providing copies (digital) of your images to the people that you shoot. This may be done on CD, or via download electronically. All models sign a release allowing images to be used for "self promotion, non-commercial purposes only." This is a great way to build your portfolio. Please register with me in advance so that you can receive time and directions to the location of the shoot. All photography must be appropriate G-Rated... these are NOT "glamour" shoots. Each monthly shoot has a "theme." The January theme has not been announced yet. There are no costs associated to the shoots at all. Photographers and talent attend the shoots from as far away as Dallas, Denton, Arkansas, San Antonio, Houston.

I would like to invite everyone on this forum who shoots to come out and join us. The talent ranges in age from children up to adults, both male and female. The actors are often great character types.

(Photo: Several of the models from our September group shoot in Georgetown - outside the Palace Theatre)

(Photo: Behind-the-Scenes at our annual Summer shoot; this year it was at the waterfalls in Round Rock)

(Photo: One of last year's themes was "Pirates" - as you can see, the talent fit the themes and the images you can capture are fun, unusual, and unique)

Learning Experience and More - 12-17-2004, 11:13 AM

Abel,
The shoots are always a lots of fun and anyone at any level of experience may attend. It is a good learning experience, we all help one another out and the models/talent that come out are happy to just take part. In 2005 we will have a variety of theme shoots including several with exotic sports and muscle cars. Here's some behind-the-scenes shots from a car theme group shoot we did this past year. The car shoots include cars such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Camaro, Mustang, Corvette... and whatever else we can round up to bring out. I hope we'll see forum members in attendance at some of these this year - and then watch them share the photos here!

This shot features Carolee, who models for L'Oreal...

This shot features Corey Jackson (center) who just appeared in the film, "Ten Little Indians."

I hope you or someone can arrange for something like this in the Houston area also, I'd love to go and give it a shot (or 50 or 1000).

Seems not only like a great opportunity to build a portfolio, but also a good chance to learn and trade techniques and advice.

Houston - 12-17-2004, 12:43 PM

We run these in HOUSTON and in SAN ANTONIO also... just not every month as in Austin. The last one in Houston was a few months back and I anticipate we will have one there in probably February or March at the latest. Jon Rowader, who runs things for us in Houston, generally arranges the shoots there. In fact, they're often short photographers so I know they'd love to have some additional folks show up. If you don't mind the two hour drive, you can always join us in Austin too. The Austin shoots are generally the largest.

Jeff,

I am really interested in the shoot in Round Rock. What do I have to do to sign up and reserve my space on the shoot? Also, what equipment, besides our cameras do we have to bring?

Thanks for letting us know about this, I think it's a great opportunity, and a really cool learning experience.

-christian.

Christian,
I sent you a PM with information on how to sign up electronically to attend. The shoot will be by the Sam Bass Theatre, one of our usual locations. Here is a shot from that spot taken at our group shoot in October - which was a "Halloween" theme. We even had a drawing and gave away a free digital camera (a little boy who traveled to the shoot from Dallas with his parents won it), and we ran a "Best Costume" and "Most Creative Costume" contest also. Everyone had an opportunity to shoot the costumed models who attended and were of all ages. This little girl was the first runner up for most creative costume. I shot this by having someone hold a white reflector screen behind her, then I knocked out the background in Corel and pasted in a different background to the image.

Jeff,

Would mind sending me the information, also?

Is anyone else thinking what I'm thinking...that this might turn out to be the inaugural Houston Photogs road trip?

Thanks,
Greg

Jeff,

Is this going to be an indoor or outdoor shoot? I'd love to give it a shot myself. Been doing a little portrait stuff lately and would love to get some tips from the pro's.

January Shoot - 12-18-2004, 08:44 PM

We just posted the sign up announcement for the January shoot on our website. We'll have many of the models and actors from our agency out there for it from both Austin and San Antonio. It will be held in Round Rock, Texas (Austin). To sign up, you need to do so electronically on our site. Due to the volume of people who attend these, it's just easier to have all the names catalogued in one place and our site then auto sends the information to everyone who has posted to attend on that particular message thread.

Go To:
http://www.austinmodelsandtalent.com/forum/index.php

Then after registering and being approved, enter your username and password, enter the site, and scan down to the category "Shoots and Jobs," then click on "Group Shoot Sign-Up." The January shoot post is pinned at the top of that forum. Maps, times, directions, and fine details are sent out via the software automated to everyone who posts a reply they are coming - notifications on this one will go out during the first week of January.

Email or PM me if you have any questions. The only requirement is that you be honest in providing shots (digital's fine) to the people that you shoot. Novice photographers are more than welcome, there are no ego's and everyone works together and has fun. We shoot outdoors for natural lighting and if it's cold (January), we'll be sure to bring pleanty of hot chocolate for everyone! Come join in the fun - it's a great way to meet a lot of people, and to find models for your own personal projects later.

Nope, no age requirements. My son often comes out and shoots, he's 21. Amy's a photographer who comes out, and I don't think she's even as old as he. We've had photographers as young as 14 come out before... and as old as in their 60's.
