Upload error - 12-02-2005, 10:08 AM

Lately when I've tried to upload a photo at the size I've done in the past 600x800 I get an upload error saying the file is too big. Then I drop it down to like 500x??? and it loads. Is there a new file size limit?

i think the error your gettin is in regards to the actual file size itself and not the physical dimensions.

I believe we have the file size capped at like 300k, ill have to double check.

I think phyiscal size is limited to 900 pixels in the longest direction.

Hmmm. 600x800 is less than 900 pixels in either direction but is still too big. Me probably thinking wrong though.

correct... those sizes are fine.

its the actual file size of the image in Kb that is the problem... when you save your image in your photo editing software select the option that allows the file to fall below 300kb in size.

im sure that will fix it for ya...

In photoshop, where does it show the kb size? I don't see it where I normally size down the image under Image and Imaze size - just see pixel and inch dimensions. So once I size it down how do I find out what the kb size will be?

try to do Save As, and then select 4 views that will show you size of file with difference compression level. or in Windows you can right click on file and go to properties, it will also show size of file.

Photoshop can't really give you a file size until you go to save it because it will vary depending on whether it is saved as a JPEG (compressed) or TIFF (possibly uncompressed). When you go to "Save As..." and save it as a JPEG you are presented with a quality slider - 1 to 12. You will see the approximate file size as you move the slider.

after you resize it down...

got to FILE pulldown
then select SAVE AS
box will pop up and allow u to choose file name etc
make sure you have the JPG option in the file format box (not the PSD file extension)
once you click OK (i think it is) select it it will allow you to choose level of JPG compression
i normally select 8 on the scale and it seems to be fine.
Click OK and that should be it
