T-Shirts will be available soon.. - 03-06-2005, 01:15 PM

Wendy and Sheldon offered up a great idea this past weekend at the Houston shoot. Their idea was to make T-Shirts and offer them up for sale here on the forums to help offset the cost.

Thus far the cost of the site has been very minimal but one day I see us exceeding our bandwidth limits...

Two things would be accomplished:
1. the forum can get some support funds wise and..
2. the forum can also get some great advertisement from fellow members.

Anyways lemme hear from you guys and see if this would of interest... im trying to work up some kind of logo or tshirt design now...

price would be around $15.99 which is about $2 over the cost per shirt. Keep in mind i wouldnt be having like 1000 shirts printed up in advance, this would be thru a service such as CafePress.com to help keep initial startup prices at a minimum.

I think it's a Great Idea! I would buy one.

As support for the forum, I would be willing to pay at least $20. Compared to T Shirt prices at special events, and prices on product "Logo" shirts, I don't think $20 would be unreasonable.
I enjoy this forum immensely and would be happy to help support it, and products like this would be an excellent way to do it.
Abel should not have to bear all of the expense for the enjoyment of the rest of us.
Perhaps other items could be made available in the future. Jackets, Caps, Coozies, Photography products...whatever....

How about running a contest on the forum for the graphics? Not that I'd participate (I'm not THAT talented!), but we've got some good talent in here and it would generate further interest.

Abel, I just went through this with a local Marine Aquarium Club I'm part of (my other cheap hobby). I called around and got several quotes and one place was a fair amount cheaper than the rest. They are located in Stafford and did very nice work. Shoot me a pm if you're interested and I'll get you their contact information.

Let's not get too cheap as you get what you buy. I don't mind paying the price because it is an easy service to use. When we buy more we can always change. I don't want to see this taking forever because everyone and their third cousin removed from their 2nd uncle that has a t-shirt press in their garage that wants a bid in. Let's just get it going............

For the people thinking it is too high it kinda is, but to start it off I don't mind.

Abel maybe have an incentive to whomever bring is 10, 15, 20 people to get signed up on the forum they get a free shirt, IE make a contest or two....

Whew!

Well, here's the quote I had from the reef society I'm part of. I have no connection with this printer. I found them in the phone book and they did a nice job and had the best price in the area.

Hanes Heavy Weight 100% cotton white with 2 color front and 2 color back $6.00 each. Add .50 for grey or $1.00 for any dark color. Also add $1.00 for XL or larger.

New City Screen Printing (Stafford)

This should at least give you something for comparisson. BTW, this was for an order of 100 shirts, so you don't have to buy a large quantity to get this price. This would put you at $8.00 a shirt max. You could charge $12 and make a little money to fund this operation and everyone still comes out cheaper than cafepress. HTH.

Here's a pic of the back of the shirt they did.

I didn't mean to direct it at you. I don't mind getting a few bids, but I know there are tons of people that do this literally in their garage and not a business where they did your shirts. There is another thread about the shirts and it is very large and it is just about the design. I just don't want to see it go on forever.

PS I have 3 saltwater and 2 freshwater tanks, 2 being reef tanks. the biggest at 185 gallons. You are right, it is a cheap hobby.......

Yeah, I know what you mean. Anybody can buy a screen printing press. At the very least, I'd stick with people who are listed in the phone book.

You're further into reefkeeping than I am. I've got a 55gal FW and a 75 gal reef tank. If you haven't already, you should stop by the website www.marshreef.com. They host frag swaps and other functions every month or two - plus members get a 15% discount at a lot of local shops. [/sales pitch]

hehe

I already went to that page. You know you are in trouble in a hobby when you have to choose between a new lens or a fish. LOL

The big tank I had to get a survey company to make sure the slab would handle it.
