I understand your request but ask that you think about what you are trying to accomplish and will/would this change have made/will make a difference.

If the overall intent is warm-fuzzies, then at least let us have that conversation. Thank you for at least looking out for the welfare of others.
if things were the way i were asking, would you be arguing against it? if not, what you are arguing is different.

but, yes. warm fuzzies would be some component. one more step for wackos would be another.

There's nothing absolute in regards to keeping someone off of the forum... They just get sniffed out and banned again in due time.

I hope that helps
see bikeforums.net for an excellent example of what I am speaking about and for SEO. type in a question about a bicycle in google and see where they pop up.

just a suggestion. nothing more. i've slept fine. just trying to make tpf a better place.

First, I would suggest you read through this thread, if you haven't already done so. Skip to the last page if you are interested in the heart of the matter.

I guess I am a little confused here (nothing new). After reading the entire thread I see where Dan makes his critique without anything offensive, then Leslie responds, Dan responds, Leslie gets a little more defensive, Dan responds a little harshly, Leslie responds a little defensive, Dan drops it, Leslie responds, a few unrelated posts, then Ron attacks Dan and defends Leslie (post 18), then some unrelated posts, then Leslie calls him a jerk and talks about the off board problems.

The reason I am confused, and I am sure I missed something important, but I never saw anything from Dan ON THE BOARD to warrant a banning. I rechecked the rules and see nothing about being a jerk off site (which from the one side I hear sounds like he was) that will get you in trouble here. In fact, post #18 looks to me like a personal attack on Dan (against rule #2 and #3), as does post #28 with the "jerk" comment aimed at Dan. Now I am not challenging anything, I don't know Dan (and from what you all are saying, I don't want to), and I am sure Abel had good reason for what he did, I just find it confusing. I would hate to think that because someone did not like me away from TPF that my membership on TPF would be in jeopardy.

Absolutely no offense to Leslie or Ron, nothing but respect for them.

Allan

PS. As for the profile page restriction, if people really think it will make their information more secure, or at least make them more comfortable, and it is easy enough for Abel to do, no problem here.

Actually that wasnt the thread where all of the drama took place. In fact the thread that did include all of the drama has had all of the related posts deleted so that the thread could get back on topic.

it usually takes quite a bit for me to throw the banning feature around so if its been issued, it is appropriate.

Hello Ron. I have no strong feelings on the subject either way. I do not imagine that the proposal will hurt the forum in any way but then again, I do not imagine that it accomplishes anything of real substance either.
