Thank You? - 03-23-2011, 07:01 AM

Abel, ever think of adding one of those THANK YOU buttons along the bottom of each post. They come in handy. For instance, i asked a question in this post http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...z-1-shots.html and it was answered. There's really no need for me to make another post just to say thank you, yet I might want the person to know i appreciate him taking the time to answer me. So a quick click of the thank you button would be helpful and keep the thread shorter. I've even it seen the thank you button used similar to facebook's "like it".

Here's a thread from another forum that uses it and it works quite well.
You can see along the bottom of the post that was thanked by several people.

Don't forget the "you're welcome button" too.

Couldn't resist that.

I'm a big fan of the Thanks button. DWF has it.

I think the Thanks button encourages thoughtfulness and helpfulness.

Especially when you have a metric of your report right there on every post you make.

yeah I agree, people may be more willing to help explain things a bit more if the OP has a reasonable "post" to "thanked" ratio.

I actually wasn't talking about that. I think that a lot of the new photographers won't have a very good ratio because they are asking more questions than they are answering.

It is kind of an incentive to act good. And fun.

sportsshooter.com has a similar thing. You can rate each post as:
informative
funny
huh?
off topic
inappropriate

You can also look at everyone's stats on their posts and what their posts have been rated.

I was just looking to save space, bandwidth and typing.

But ya, there are some other benefits as well.

oh I understood the "thanked" portion wrong. I though it recorded how many times you thanked someone, not how many times you were thanked... it's more of a "reputation" based thing like most websites. I thought it was how many times you thanked someone for good information
