Photo upload problem - 01-02-2006, 08:25 PM

I can't seem to attach photos to my posts. The popup dialog opens and I can browse for my files, but once I hit the Upload button the process times out. Are there any settings I need to tweak in order to upload?

Yeah, I should have mentioned that I resized the latest photo to 800x600 and it's only about 76K in size... that should work, shouldn't it?

yes that will work just fine.

not sure why the upload process is timing out on you. Maybe Abel or one of the moderators can look into it for you

I have been having the same problem now for a couple of days. Just started a couple of days ago for me. No software updates here. Mac OSX 10.4.3 and Safari 2.0.2 FWIW

Have to try several times to get one to go through....

Abel: I tried to upload soon after joining the forum and didn't have any luck then either.

I see a message in the status bar at the bottom of the Manage Attachments window that says "Opening page http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum/newattachment.php..." for about 5 minutes, then the window changes to "This page cannot be displayed" and says "Cannot find server or DNS Error / Internet Explorer" at the bottom of the window.

Since I haven't been able to upload yet, I'm assuming I may have a setting wrong somewhere in my IE configuration, but I don't know where it would be. I'm able to upload photos to my own web site via ftp (through Dreamweaver). Is there an anonymous login happening in the background when we upload a file?

Thanks in advance for whatever assistance you can provide...

For me I had no problems until maybe 3 or 4 days ago, give or take. I thought it was just me. I tried restaring the browser and it didn't seem to help. Same with restart of the computer. No rhyme or reason to it. I tried a couple of times and I was able to upload to pbase, email, etc. even when I couldn't upload to TPF.

i know the server people added a php optimizer to the server and it kept us from being able to edit our own posts so i emailed them about that and they removed it. i believe it was during the same time frame u mentioned...

can u give it another try real quick and see if it gives u the same errors...

thx

Abel: I tried it again and got the same result. I then reset all my IE Security and Advanced settings to Default values and tried it again. The Progress Bar at the bottom of the Manage Attachments windows went all the way to the right edge but with the same result... "This page cannot be displayed".

Thoughts?

Testing 1, 2, 3...Testing 1, 2, 3

Took 5 tries... Only thing I did different was on the 4th was to add a second image (avatar spin) to the main large image (dog). Couldn't get it to upload the dog only on the previous three tries. Resterted browser after #2 attempt, no help...

Upload test - 01-02-2006, 10:04 PM

Testing upload... successfully attached a small text file almost instantaneouly, but no luck with photos yet... even a severely shrunk 35K file that's 186x130 pixels in size. Seems like something to do with the .jpg file type perhaps?

Okay, tried two photos at once... same result. I'll keep tweaking things while awaiting tips from others who may have experienced this in the past...

Attached small .gif file... 918 bytes... then came back and edited the post to add a second file... and it worked! At least it's a bit of success, but way too much work!

Abel: Any ideas?

And thanks to Pete and James for their assistance!

May not make a difference but on Linux servers, .jpg and .JPG are two different formats. If .JPG is not on the allow list, then it may upload properly.
