Arrow Feature: Custom Member Profile Pages - 03-27-2007, 06:32 PM

One of the things I am proudest of is our current custom Profile Pages. On typical forums the profile pages are often very bland and serve little purpose. Our new custom profile pages allow us to utilize a lot more options and fields which in turn allows members to get to know a little more about each other.

For example each member can include a short blurb about themselves, what their favorite aspect of photography is, their camera gear list as well as many other fields to their other profile pages on a number of different websites.

Benefits are:
enter in more background info in the About Me section
enter in your Myspace.com profile link
enter in your ModelMayhem.com profile link
enter in your One ModelPlace.com profile link
enter in your SportsShooter.com profile link
enter in your Flickr.com profile link
enter in gender
enter in what equipment you use in the Photo Gear section
direct link to user’s gallery is listed
recent submissions to the gallery are shown and linked
display how many profile views you’ve gotten

Old Look

New and Improved Look:

Definitely make it a point to take advantage of these custom Profile Pages. I know I myself enjoy learning a thing or two about our fellow members that I may not have ever known were it not for them having a place to share their story.

Here’s a link to my profile if you would like to give it a look over and see the different features:

Hi Abel,

I'm pretty new to vBulletin boards and the HTML-based codes they use. I wanted to put a link in the About Me section of my profile, but couldn't get it to work. I noticed you had one in yours and I was hoping you could tell me how you did it.

Thanks, and sorry for such a silly question.

Hi Abel,

Thanks, I've gotten it to work in the forum, but not on my profile. If I paste exactly what they show in the help file in the About Me section of my profile, when I view my profile it simply displays the code and not the link.

I'm probably just completely misunderstanding something ... but don't you just type {url=http://www.californiaphotoforum.com/forum}CaliforniaPhotoForum{/url} where the curly brackets are straight ones?

check your profile now, it seems theres a bug that requires all 3 sections to be filled out before the BB Code kicks in...

i placed some dummy text in the next 2 fields and it worked.. so check it out.

so for now, go ahead and fill out the other 2 fields so that the code will work, ill investigate and see if i can find a fix

Awesome. I appreciate your help.

Also, this is kind of a random place to say it, but this place is really cool. Thanks for taking the time and energy to set it up! :-)
