Help.
I am trying to search Pixtus for threads about Big Bend National Park and I can't figure out how to restrict the search. I am getting everything with those four words - Brazos BEND State Park, Oxbow BEND and a lot of others that I have so sift through.
I tried doing
+"Big Bend National Park"
and I tried
+"Big Bend" -Brazos -BBSP
but that doesn't seem to work.
Is it possible to restrict searches? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks,

Patti

you can search:
Big Bend National Park
BBNP
you can even go to Advanced Search and select to search ONLY titles: Pixtus - Photography Forum, Photographers, Photo Tips - Search Forums
does that help at all? | | | |

Thanks for the quick response Abel! Actually, that is what I am doing and the return is the problem.
Here is an example: Pixtus - Photography Forum, Photographers, Photo Tips - Search Results
I did an advanced search for Big Bend National Park only in the title.
The problem is that the search returns any thread that contains the word Big, the word Bend, the word National and the word Park in the title. Lots of threads.
I just want threads that contain the string "Big Bend" or "Big Bend National Park".
Is that possible?

Just now I searched for "hdr" (without the quotations) and got zero results. That can't be right. Just today I read about a LR plugin that could accomplish an HDR layering, and I was trying to find the post...

So what am I doing wrong on my searches? I rarely get results on my searches. For instance, I go under Equipment Talk, click on Search this Forum, type in 5D (show threads is checked) and click Go. I would expect to be inundated with 5D and 5DII threads. Instead, it takes me to another screen where it states it found no results and I can refine my search - which never helps.
What simple piece of logic am I missing?
Thanks in advance. | | | |

Thanks in advance. | I've had a problem with this too, and I think there is a minimum number of characters that are needed to search (and it's more than 2). I've had problems searching for numbers too.

I would think that would be long enough is there is a minimum.
Like I said, I'm sure I am missing a simple logical step. Looks like Abel is looking into it.

That doesn't work. Try it and you will see. You will get anything with Big or Bend in it. That's what I'm asking for - a search feature that "understands" boolean logic. The search feature in Pixtus doesn't. I'm guessing that most forum search features don't? It is probably too complicated? I don't know.

the search feature should be fixed now... all of the searches mentioned above should work. lemme know how it does.
also, words of 3 characters can now be search such as bag, mac, pro etc as well as some 2 letter items like V1 J1 5D 7D etc

Abel,
I think it is a lot closer, but I still get hits that don't fit the boolean search. For example, I searched for "Big Bend" and got this thread: A Raptor Day at BBSP
Nothing in the thread about Big Bend. The word Big is there and the word Bend is there, but the string "Big Bend" is not.
I appreciate that you are working on it! I know there are a lot of things that come up with higher priority.
Thanks,
