Question Posting photo size? - 08-29-2006, 02:16 PM

Even though I post photos to TPF via external link, I was wondering what the official "acceptable" size is? Is it a width of 600 pixels? 800? I read the FAQ but didn't see anything in there about it.

If this is a dead horse topic... sorry for kicking it!

Its been talked about without ever having much of a solution...

I usually choose 600 because its a nice, neutral size.. makes portraits be 600x900 and landscapes 600x400.. which is big enough to see, but small enough that people with smaller screens don't end up having to scroll.

I have been using 720 for width but would like a submission guideline.

My images are set for 700 pixels high. Width is not usually a problem at 8x12. YMMV.

Yes, I saw that but that is just the maximum size limitations for uploading... I'm more interested in a general concensus about the "suggested" or "accepted" size for posted images. If it's off-site image, it can be any size... which there is nothing anyone can do anything about.

I've found that a width of 800 for landscape, and a height of 700 for portrait, works well. Keeps the files small enough to load quickly, and just "looks right" to me.

600-800 wide is fine...

i usually post mine around 600x400 (sometimes 700 wide)

i definitely wouldnt go wider than 800 since it begins to be too big for some.

Anything over 700 on my screen is cut off. I have adjusted my screen resolution from 1600x1200 to 800x600 and it doesn't make any difference.

The forum pages are a strip in the middle of my screen instead going from edge to edge. It is been this way since the last upgrade.

I have to use firefox at home, as IE7 doesn't show anything "outside the box", strips the right hand side off. ff expands when needed.

I post at 740 pixels wide for landscape view and 580 tall for portrait view. I believe these are the perfect dimensions which should be adopted universally by the Forum without debate and rigidly enforced thereafter.

Jim - have you changed the drop down in the bottom left to Satellite liquid?

I shoot for no more than 800px wide for landscape and 700px high for portrait, which might be a little large. I've been thinking about reducing to around Brad's sizes.

I do think some rule or guideline would be nice so folks would know what the boundaries are.
