THANK YOU Abel and All Photog's - 01-15-2005, 02:41 PM

The TEXAS MODELS & TALENT FORUM and the AUSTIN MODELS & TALENT AGENCY would like to formally thank everyone who helped make today's JANUARY 2005 TFP GROUP THEME SHOOT a success..!

Indeed, a wonderful and powerful group of talented people showed up today. These monthly shoots, now on their third year, provide such an opportunity for the photographer and model/actor talent community in Texas. I'm so pleased that what started out several years ago as a crazy idea to gather a group of people together once a month has turned into such a fantastic device for everyone to benefit from!

I posted this message over on the Texas Models & Talent Forum and wanted to repeat it here since a lot of the new photographers who came out are a result of this forum. Thank you Abel for making THIS forum because it is really wonderful. Not to get off track here, but so many "online photography forums" online in Texas are not focused on quality and non-adult topics... and you have done an incredible job making this one work. The forum I run focuses on model and actor photography, so your forum is quite different and a fantastic online neighbor friend for us to have. Thanks, Abel!

Okay so... here is today's count and tally of those who attended (not including parents, friends, and chaparones who attended with the talent, and/or the photographer's assistants). If I left anyone out, or mispelled a name... please forgive me and post a correction:

Wow... 25 photographers!!! Now there was some initial fear a few days back because many who attended today were "new" to our group... but these ladies and gentlemen all showed up and did their thing and I hope each benefitted greatly from it.

For those photographers here on Abel's forum (TEXAS PHOTO FORUM), I'd like to ask that you keep yourselves tuned in on the Texas Models & Talent Forum to share your images and to make sure you communicate and distribute the images to the talent that showed up today. At the same time, it would be wonderful if you each display your images here on the TEXAS PHOTO FORUM as well. Two cool communities online - there is power in numbers and strength in teams. Everyone who came out today was part of a team and I thank you all... and so do the models and talent you shot.

While some of you were off shooting others (and probably swamped and busy!), I had an opportunity to work with a friend who came to the shoot. This photo is Janet Thompson. Janet is MISS TEXAS 2004. She came out today for a few shot for her own projects, as well as a photo we shot that will be on the cover of the pageant magazine / program guide that will be distributed at the upcoming Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant. Three girls that I manage (Austin Models & Talent) will be competing for titles in these scholarship pageants here in Austin - which provide winners with actual money ($5000) toward college scholarships. What a wonderful thing!

swanny338,
There will be one in Houston in February. We are signing up models and photographers right now to attend. I will not be present, but our Booking Agent in Houston is organizing the event. The Houston shoots tend to not be quite as crowded as the Austin, but are still fun and productive. We had a lot of new photographers in Austin this time, so I was hesitant to bring in too many models/actors... had I known everyone who came to shoot would be so wonderful, I would have doubled the amount of talent that came out! We will do this again in March in Austin so if everyone signs on to shoot then, I'll increase the quantity of people and also invite out some local "celebrity types," I know Mrs. Austin has asked about coming out in March - and I have three girls competiting for main Austin pageants in February (two for Miss Teen Austin and one for Miss Austin) and they will definitely come out to the shoot in March also. The "theme" for that shoot will be "Revenge of the Nerds" and we will ask all the talent to come out dressed and acting like a "nerd" in order to capture some crazy, fun images.

Thanks again to all who came out!

This link is a little "thank you" page seen by lots of local talent and talent and modeling agencies. If you're one of the photographers listed and want a link on there to your online portfolio, let me know and I will add it. I put those on that I was able to easily find.

THANKS, JIM!
Yes, it was cold. For those of you who prefer warm... plan on coming to the summer shoot. We shoot in the waterfalls, the photographers about waist deep in water and the models (we bring out the older crowd) standing with the waterfalls thundering down around them. Certainly creates some different images!

Here's a shot I did Saturday with Laura. This was Laura's second time at one of our group shoots and, in fact, after this time I told her mother that I would like to sit down and discuss a contract with her for representation with the agency. This little lady is extremely talented. This photo was taken underneath the bridge with one of the bridge pilars as a background, Canon 10D and a little bit of fill flash (it was quite dark and gloomy outside).

I agree with Jim, Saturday was a heck of a lot of fun! I don't think the cold affected me as much as the sunlight changing every time a cloud passed by overhead! I have TONS of shots that are out of focus or focused on the wrong things (like the tree next to the model), and even more that would have been better had I known how to compensate for shadows. That is something I'll need to work on more.

Anyway, I've uploaded the few shots I felt were worth considering keeping here:

No, I won't be offended if y'all pat me on the head and tell me to stick to snapping shots of my cat. ;)

Here are some of my pictures from Saturday (January) as well as other past shoots organized by Jeff and the group. I will add more to the January gallery as I process them.

It's amazing how much easier it becomes working with different models as you get a little practice. If you are at all interested in portraits or other people photography (seniors, engagements, weddings, etc.), I encourage you to attend these shoots.
