Unhappy TPF - Getting way too slow - 02-17-2007, 01:13 PM

By my measure to start this thread from the forum menu it took over a minute
to get Post New Thread menu.

A. says new servers are planned BUT ...
I left TPF over a year ago cause it got too slow
... and it's slower now.

How long is it taking you ???
Let "The Man" know !!!

It's more than those POY's.
What's the Plan AND Timeframe ???

It's slower than Canadian Molassis on a Cold Day !!!

I managed to count to '1' before the form appeared, from the 'Site Info' page, hitting new thread.

I don't count that slow. Less than a second anyway. The site is usually that fast for me - has been ever since I've been here.

I'm in Austin, on roadrunner.

Guys,
If you click on new post and scroll down, right above the page numbers, it will tell you haw long the search took.
Or am I misunderstanding what that means ?

we did make one upgrade already and plan to make another soon.. in fact we were going to do it a couple of months ago but I didn't wanna chance mesiin up the poy.

the next server upgrade requires me to update or vbulletin software and that I am very leary of because we may lose a bunch of the extra we've installed over the past year and a half...

I will make the software update I just need a couple of days off from work to devote some time to getting it completed... then we can upgrade servers...

just been working 7 days a week for awhile now... in fact I'm still at the office now.. hehee :(

rest easy... it will happen... I promise.

On the New Posts page I get:

"Search took 0.11 seconds"

Here's my ping to www.texasphotoforum.com:

C:\>ping www.texasphotoforum.com

Pinging texasphotoforum.com [67.15.139.40] with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 67.15.139.40: bytes=32 time=41ms TTL=50
Reply from 67.15.139.40: bytes=32 time=48ms TTL=50
Reply from 67.15.139.40: bytes=32 time=48ms TTL=50
Reply from 67.15.139.40: bytes=32 time=48ms TTL=50

Ping statistics for 67.15.139.40:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 41ms, Maximum = 48ms, Average = 46ms

Average of 46ms latency is not bad, that's .046 seconds to get from my PC to the TexasPhotoForum web server.

I'm not sure if PIC meant "the time to click on "new posts" and have it come up fully" or "the time to open the "create a new thread" page in Site Info, starting from the forum index". I timed the latter.

.03 sec for me. I've never seen any latency issues with the forum either. Next time it happens EL, try doing a traceroute (tracert from windows) to the server and see what it shows.
