Camera lens and review page... - 03-14-2007, 11:28 AM

Abel...

Just an idea. Make a dedicated page where users could post reviews of their opinions of a lens, camera, flash, filters, tripods, monopods, etc. based, on picture quality produced, build quality, and over value with regards to price they paid. They could also report how much they paid for it and where. When a user gets photographic equipment that is not on the list they would petition you for a new page.

Enter the following pages from a page that would have the different sectiosn broken down by brand, type, etc Canon lenses, filters (broken down into type (UV, Polarizing, Red, Blue, etc.)), Canon camera bodies, Nikon camera bodies, Nikon lenses. The idea would be to have a main page that would be a list of the different items with their rankings with links to more specified pages that would have a picture of the lens, basic specifications provided by the company, and a summary of the lens (could also be from the company) with a link to the companies site. Each user would then be allowed to submit a review about the product in a 3 section format, strength's, weakness's, and overall thoughts about the lens. Users could in a separate section on the page to provide links to lens tests on the internet that others have done.

I would say to start off with camera bodies, Canon and Nikon to start with since they seem to be the most popular, move onto lenses from those companies, and move on from there into other categories of photography equipment as listed above.

I hope this idea is clear and it would be really cool to make this happen. I am sure others will have ideas how to make this page better.

I think there are many review sites that do a much better and more technical job that we could provide here at TPF.

I would wholly support a links to review sites page(s) though. A single page of links to places like Bjorn's lens reviews or DP Review's official camera tests would be most beneficial. IMHO, of course.

I agree, this page would be geared towards consumer reviews meaning user reviews of TPF members and not by TPF administrators/moderators. Just an idea but I think it would be another good source for information.

I think its a cool idea... in fact ive thought baot doing just that last summer but one thing led to another and i got sidetracked big time.

thanks for the suggestion, im always open to new ideas... I'll definitely put this one on the 'front burner' and think it through a bit and see if it's something that can really do well here on TPF

thanks again

I'd like to to a review or two...something I've always wanted to do, but I wouldn't do them from a 'consumer' standpoint...
