Suggest Camera type in profile or search engine - 06-23-2007, 12:47 PM

I was trying to do a quick search on XTi and cards and that ended up with me having to click on peoples profiles to find out what kind of camera they where using when talking about cards. I called Sandisk and they told me one type card I was looking at on sale may not even work in the XTi and to call Canon (was at the end of the work day so not an option I figured), so a quick answer was needed not to miss the sale which I didn't know how long it would run.

Thus for people new to forums and SLR's it might be helpful if the Profile Info page had another filed added under Can Other Edit My Pics, like Camera type. That way if someone posts info about a card, etc. it will be easy to see what camera it is working in. Also would help if someone wanted to do a search on just their camera type and a certain word. I know there may be a way to do such a search under the current engine, but it would be using a method not known to people new to forums. Just a thought. I don't mind posting dumb questions but when I have time I try to search for an answer before posting. In this case my search failed to turn up an answer just searching on XTi. I didn't post due to other things going on or know if overnight I'd get the answers I needed so I hoped to search out the answer.

Don't overwork Abel, your doing great and I consider this site as my home base. Due to sticky notes on another forum I found the answers I needed on cards quickly and got my order in before the sale ended. Once I found this place I quit going there until this case came up. It has the same type search engine and setup so I only luckily got the answers I needed there. Thank you for creating this site Abel. I've looked into becoming a Premium Member but running on 98SE (not allowing a lot in IE or ZAP due to no OS security updates) and having never used or liked PayPal it is on my back burner for now until things slow down to look into it farther.

Hi Kay, I have an XT and XTI, don't know how much help I could be, but if you have some questions, feel free to PM me. I'm not to far from Stephenville, (Brownwood) and met my husband at the WalMart in Stephenville :) People here on the forum are a fantastic source of help, so ask away!

Just out of curiosity, is there some reason the "equipment" section of the profile doesn't work for this?

Hi Heather, thanks for the offer of help on it but I think I found my answer at the other forum and ordered the card based on that information so I hope it's right. If not I'll have a card for sale LOL. My Dad met my Mom in Stephenville too, so guess it still is a great meeting place for those looking :).

Bill it does sometimes work to look in their profile if they have listed their equipment, but not everyone who replied to the posts had equipment listed there, had multiple equipment or didn't have a XTi. I went through all the posts I could find before I thought of going to the other forum. Where I am 56k is all I can get. I did turn off avaitars which I enjoyed seeing, but slowed down pages coming in. So yes it does and doesn't work.

I usually don't get in such a hurry to look up information so fast thus wading through everyone who replied equipment page wouldn't be that big of a deal, but I noticed some had posted information about the sale in this forum and not knowing how long it had been on sale or if they would run out made it a mad dash for me to put in my order Friday morning. When I start shooting raw I wanted more than one card on hand.

Makes no difference to me one way or the other if the suggestion is taken. As our knowledge advances we often forget the little things that puzzled or tripped us up in the beginning (lesson 101 programming you have to remember the baby steps or the program won't work LOL). Being new to SLR's I don't know if what works on a different model will work on my model so until I gain more wisdom I'd like to stick to information that others post that have my model.

Glad you got the answer you needed!

I wasn't trying to be sarcastic or anything. My suspicion is, though, that anyone who would fill out a camera model section would also fill out the equipment section, and anyone who wouldn't fill out the equipment section wouldn't fill out the camera model either.

If nothing else, you reminded me to go update mine with last week's purchases :-)

Bill your right on what people may or may not fill in, seems like they always do fill in if you can edit their pictures though hehe.

Just looked at your profile and couldn't tell last weeks purchases from past :), but looks like you have a lot of goodies. Missed getting a good shot of my roadie due to 17-55mm just wouldn't get up close and personal. But Bigma is the next on my list to get when I get a little more experience.
