Suggestion: TPF Annual Photo Tournament - 07-28-2005, 02:34 PM

I have mulling over this idea and wanted to know if anyone else was interested. I think it would be pretty neat to run a photo contest through the forum, but not just any contest, a tournament.

This tournament would be open topic with 2 categories (Color - B&W). Participants must be Texans and forum members. Each regional forum will hold its own contest where participants have 2 weeks to submit photos. Each participant will be able to submit 2 photos in each category (4 total), for one exclusive region (can't cross post). At the end of 2 weeks, each region will have voting (3-7 days) and the first place winners of each region will then be judged against each other (Maybe in the General Gallery forum).

When all is said and done, we will have 2 TPF Photographers of the year (Color and B&W).

We will have to work out some of the rules, like no cross forum voting, or what constitutes a B&W photo. We would also need some voluteers to run their respective regional contests.

We could also make it interesting and pony up $1 for each photo submitted and paypal it to Abel or someone else and the money could be used for prizes (Stylish TPF t-shirts? Split money pot?). The money thing is just an idea, but I could care less if we actually do that.

If this works out, maybe we can make this an annual thing.

Any takers??

With the number of spectacular photographers on this website, and the fact that we are a reginal bunch.

I would think that it would be pretty easy for Abel to seek some local sponsorship.

In the past, I've seen winners of these types of Weekly, Monthy, Anuual events getting a minimum of a large print of the winning photograph for the prize.

Currently, I'm just putting out feelers...In all actuality, we may want to break up the categories even further.

The problem with the Pro/Am category is who decides where stuff goes. I think most of my stuff is pretty bad so I'd definately want to be in the novice group, but maybe others think I should be considered a pro.

I'm up for whatever, I just think that this forum lends itself nicely for the tournament style contest.

As for prizes, we would need to get folks to ante up if that's the route we go...unless of course, we could get a company to sponser the contest. Now that would be cool, maybe a software company would be interested.
