This is a discussion on General Garage Sale Style Buy/Sell Section? within the Site Info forums, part of the General Information category; I think it would be a good idea. Why not buy from people that you may have bought from before ...

I think it would be a good idea. Why not buy from people that you may have bought from before and/or already know? Just takes some of the scam risk out of using other buy/sell sources like Craigslist.

I just found this posting! Great idea!!! And I see the kicking around of the idea has already lead to the creation of the site. Excellent. I hope you decide to keep it. I think it is a great idea. Local traffic is so much better than say ebay. And, I like buying/selling with a much smaller group of people. We photographers are a much smaller niche of people than just some wide group of people with no loyalty to each other. Not to mention that Ebay has gotten greedy by requiring Paypal for ANY sale. Argh! And if you decided to put a limit of posts required...it would be nice to allow even people with say a different number or no posts to at least see the thread. I find it very unreasonable that NikonCafe has put a 300 post requirement to post or even see their foresale site.

I think you should always check out what people have posted. It's easy to do. Go to their profile, and you can see every message they have written and/or thread started.

Personally, I think with this being a closed site (i.e. you can't even see inside with out joining), it is a pretty trustworthy community.

you should still do some research when buying from members...

for instance if you click my itrader rating under my avatar it takes you to this page:
http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum/itrader.php?u=1

then if you click the very first entry it takes you to this page:
http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...hp?ir=2076&u=1

then clicking the summary on that last page will forward you to the thread where the transaction took place so that you can see the item sold and how much it was sold for.
http://www.texasphotoforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=93408

That is the best way to see what was sold and how much the items were for...

what youre describing about a member selling baseball cards could also be said for a member selling lens cloths and lens caps in the regular buy/sell section.

you should always do a little background check if you feel a little uncomfortable.
