Text Size - 10-06-2005, 05:28 PM

Is there a way I can enlarge the text size for posts?

I'm using satellite style liquid for the skin because I could see the logo with the default style but I don't know if that had anything to do with the text size. Looked at options and couldn't find a way to enlarge text unless I just overlooked it.

Thanks

If I understand your question you want to enlarge the text size in your posts on this forum???

HMMM,,, let's see When you reply to a thread, or originate a new thread, there is a box just above the text box that lists the text style and type size.
i.e. this is tahoma 3 and this is impact 5.

I hope this helps (verdana 3).

No I'm not trying to enlarge the text for my posts. I'm trying to see the default size for everybody elses posts. The tahoma 3 you used is about right for my eyes. The default size you started with and what I'm now using is too small for these old eyes of mine. Gonna have to get out the magnifying glass! Thanks for trying to help. Guess my original question wasn't clear enough.

Roy. I think you mean the posts that others make???

Abel...Is there a way to change the default text size for the entire forum. It is a bit on the small side. I seem to remember that the old software did default to a larger font. I don't have any problem reading it, but it would be nice if it were slightly larger.

I usually just hit Ctrl + to enlarge it and Ctrl - to reduce it.
Or you can do it in the browser settings under view text size
Not sure if Abel can do it or not.

That doesn't work for many web pages, including this forum. At least, not in IE. I think it has something to do with the fact that it only applies to generic text that doesn't already have specific (non-HTML) formatting applied to it.

relative font size vs. absolute - 10-06-2005, 10:11 PM

The IE setting of View > Text Size only works when the web site designer has coded the font sizes to be relative. If they use absolute sizes like 2 or 3 or 12px it won't work. If they use percentages llike 90% or em (I think) it will work. Most sites use absolute sizes. If you go to suzyeide.com, change the font size in your browser to get one size bigger (if possible). You'll see the copyright text get bigger and everything else stay the same. I need to check on that because I thought I used more relative sizes. You can get some weird effects because on one of my pages I saw the copyright get bigger and also the bullets in the bulleted list -- but not the bulleted *text*. Eh I just blame it on a buggy browser

EDIT: I just remembered what my problem was with using percent size fonts.... My site is all in tables and when I set the regular font size at 90% (to me the default IE font is too big) in the P tag and TD tag, they were multiplying each other. Text in a table would be in a P tag in a TD tag and would end up smaller (.9*.9) than text just in a P tag. It was annoying. Maybe I should look into em more.

Well I was just hoping it was something I could do on my end. I just looked in the mirror and saw this

Abel, I appreciate it if you come up with a solution.

I run at 1440x1080. The text is readable but it is a bit on the small side, would be more eye-friendly if it was a bit larger.

Interestingly, I find the text size in the Reply editor just right, and not only that but if you look below at where it shows you the other posts in the thread (still from the editor page), it uses a larger font than what's used in the actual thread display.

I'm running 1280x1024 on a 21" monitor. I can see the text, it's just a strain to read for me. Interesting, when you quote another person the text is a little larger too.

This is size 3 and it sure is easier on my eyes.

I think font size was oe of the big reasons behind my decision to use the default style for the forum. It's font is about twice the size of the Satellite Style font.

If you do a View Source you can see the style sheet that is being used here.

Your right Suzyjazz. I should of caught it when I switched over to liquid sattelite. I just saw the Texas Logo on liquid sattilite and some other features I thought looked cool. I'll just go back to the default for now. Mucho better.

I'm not getting the texas logo on default but that's okay.
