Feature Request - 05-25-2009, 10:21 PM

I've been very happy with Smugmug so far, using it as a portfolio but I'm starting to think that it won't quite meet my needs when I'm ready to start showing session photos to clients.

I've looked at several online proofing websites and, while I don't like the looks of most of them nearly as much as I like the look of SmugMug, they seem to offer more functionality....

The main feature that I'm finding lacking is the ability for a client to mark certain photos as "favorites" or save some in a folder to make them easy to come back to. Ideally, I'd like them to be able to create more than one folder AND mark some as favorites, and I'd like them to be able to do this in multiple places. (Ex: on each thumbnail and on any/all of the larger previews.)

I would REALLY like it if this could be added to the pop-up bar that contains the thumbs up/down.

I would also like to see a "buy" option added to the thumbs up/down bar....

Is there any possibility of this being added, or do I need to sign up with somebody else to get this functionality?

ETA: Other things on my wish list, if they don't exist already:

- being able to offer coupon/discount codes to clients

- cropping control (Can clients control the crop when they order pics, or are pics just cropped however the machine happens to cut them?)

- email clients (I would like them to be able to pre-register on the site, and have an email sent [by me, or automatically] when pics are uploaded to the gallery they've registered for)

I might do that, but I'm hoping they'll see it here, too. They seem fairly responsive to this forum.... : )

I take it back....

Guess I'll just keep looking at some of the others. Watch for a thread from me, listing online proofing options. (Just to help me keep it all straight, and in case it might help somebody else....)

They can just add it to their shopping cart. Then remove it later if they find one they like better. I hate that pop out box. I find the buy button at the top of the photo to work quite well.

I have clients write a comment on pics they love or want a change to. Then I can edit those pics , delete the old one and the comment.

Things to think about, but still not as simple as a button to add to favorites or a folder....

Yes, we know exactly what you are talking about and we are strategizing over here for a solution to this.

People in the past have overwhelmingly told us to put the "Buy" button at the top of the page and to have it stay static. Why do you want it in the pop up?

Coming very soon, we are working on these right now.

We already have this. All customers can control the crop so it matches perfectly the product they buy.

We are working on a solution for this as well. We may partner with a service to provide this, but we are brain storming on this.

Sorry for the late reply. I do try and stay current at TPF because I love it here, but life has been crazy for me personally!

I do like the idea of being able to favorite photos in a gallery for later use, much easier than writing them down and then waiting on an email or to meet with them in person etc.
