Making smugmug into a website? - 11-22-2009, 09:42 AM

From the newbie here who signed up back in April, I have a link from my blog posted to your site for my galleries and print options, but I'm wanting to go full-time and need a website.

Can I customize my smugmug galleries into that? What about text pages, etc?

I also use smugmug for full website: dliveleyphotography

It takes awhile to learn the coding but playing off examples posted on dgrin.com it is easy to manipulate the code into what your looking for.

I also use smugmugdomains.com for my domain hosting and routing and have been really pleased with it and there email service.

So how did you guys learn to change your smugmug galleries into a website? It looks complicated, and I don't see a link to do that from my galleries page.

It helps a lot when you read the customization topics at dgrin.com.

In a nutshell, create a gallery, set the style to "Journal", and then fill YOUR TEXT or html code into the "description" field between <html> and </html> tags.

@Heatherlou
May I ask why you are going to make the change to CMD?

Redneck,
I am going with a CDM site for several reasons. Mainly, its easy. My Smugmug site, Brad set up for me and since I don't know code, he has to do any changes I need. PITA for him. Plus, when you get the flash site, you can get a mirror HTML site, a wordpress blog, and a shopping cart that goes to my paypal. This way, I can use Millers for the limited amount of online sales I do. Since I am projection proofing now, I only need the online for out of town clients.

I have a good relationship with multiple SmugMug customization companies around the country. If you are open to paying a little bit, you can have one of these firms completely customize your site for you.

Prices start usually around $250 and up!

Let me know if you want me to introduce you to few?

If not, I suggest you look at our EZ Customizer: help - Pro users: How to customize your SmugMug pages

We have an advanced place for doing customization as well, but it is good to play around with the EZ customizer to see how far you can take it.

Let me know!

I have been using smugmug as my website since 2005: Renee Sumner Photography
I use the forum at Digital Grin Photography Forum - Powered by vBulletin and the tutorials to get it the way I want. I'm still working on it. I just recently made my homepage a slideshow. They are a great company and are always coming out with great ideas.
