Now we just need self fulfillment.

Thank you for mentioning this!! We were all at WPPI in Las Vegas when we released this and it has been a whirlwind ever since trying to catch up.

We also released the ability to set up an event and then let your client mark their "favorites" to be put in a separate gallery!!

More details on this: help - Pros: Market and share your events

Thanks,
Markham

We are looking at Self-fulfillment right now. What is your main reason for wanting it? I am trying to help dig in and make sure we nail the feature.

I have found many people wanting SF are requesting it because they have never tried Bay Photo. Have you tried them out?

Thanks for any of your feedback,

Three (ok, four) reasons:

1. (And the most important) - I do not drop ship to my clients. Part of my service is that I personally inspect every print that they order before they ever see it. If there is a problem, I will take care of it. I then will hand deliver the images.

2. I am very loyal to my lab. I have built product offerings around them and what they offer.

3. I have been very disappointed in the quality from EZPrints on anything bigger than an 8x10.. never mind that they also roll images once they reach a certain size, adding an extra step to my delivery process.

4. I have personal issues with Bay Photo. Suffice to say that they could give away their product for free and still be unable to earn my business.

I love SmugMug for a whole lot of reasons, but in a world where self-fulfillment is commonplace at other service providers, it continues to dumbfound me why you don't offer it. If someone were to offer me a painless way to move all of my materials to another service .. and find some way to locate all the places where I have linked to the images I have at SM externally so I could fix broken links .. I'd go somewhere else. I've been tempted to do so anyway on a number of occasions.

Answers:

1) Yes, we are thinking of allowing this as a first step. The Pro photog can set it such that all orders automatically ship to them.

2) Hard compete with. Do you mind telling us who it is so we can learn?

3) We released Bay Photo to answer some of the EZ Prints complaints we had.

4) That is too bad. Very sorry to hear that.

NOTE: If you have specific complaints or issues other than Self-fulfillment feel free to send it on. All ears.

Markham

I'm a Miller's customer. They have served me very well.. above and beyond.. and earned both my trust and loyalty.

And no.. really, self-fulfillment is about the only issue I have. That's why I haven't taken the effort to go somewhere else. Everything else about SmugMug is good enough to override the desire for the SF... I just sound annoyed by it because I feel like I've been asking about it for .. oh, 4 years or so.

I hate having to explain time and again why it's different if ordering from the gallery vs. ordering directly from me. Bay Photo has been pretty good for me, tho I'd rather just use the lab I use for all my other prints.

I want self fulfillment because smugmug does not allow me to sell a CD/DVD of my images.

In addition to the print packages, I'd love to be able to sell a digital package as well...say 5 pictures for $50 or whatever, or to be able to get a CD/DVD of my images shippped to the customer.

I've got my first set of prints coming from EZ Prints, going to order the same from Bay Photo to see the difference.

Markham,

Thank you for the "favorites" feature. While I'm not interested in self-fulfilling anything, I can see the appeal.

That's a good idea. I never thought to do that. There is a substantial premium for the prints however. All you need to do to appreciate either one is to print something at Wal-Mart or CVS and have a gander. They SUCK!

I've been using WHCC for some time and have been very happy with their quality. We'll see what the quality of these two labs looks like.

I do like that both of these labs offer 8.5x11 printing, which fits right into my pina zangaro portfolio book (WHCC does not).

We are going to offer this in the future no matter the timing on Self Fulfillment.

But I can't do it NOW...i've had to set up a page like THIS in order to sell CD's.

I want to be able to sell a "DIGITAL" package...in other words, all the images in a gallery for $50 or whatever, downloaded by the buyer....not just a print package. Maybe the functionality is in fact there, but I wasn't able to figure it out.
