New photo loader - 11-24-2010, 10:04 AM

I am having trouble with the new drag and drop loader. It works in as much as it lets me drag and drop to upload, but once its done everything freezes. I have to close the IE session and go back to smugmug to view. I also have this problem now with the old easy loader. The one where you browse for pictures.

This wasnt an issue before the new loader.

Good morning and happy Thanksgiving!

The new HTML 5 uploader does not work for IE as of yet. It may work when IE9 comes out but we are unsure right now if it will support that uploader.
Google Chrome - Get a fast new browser. For PC, Mac, and Linux
Firefox web browser | Faster, more secure, & customizable

In the meantime you can use an alternat browser like Firefox or Chrome. Both of those will work. You can also use the old Simple Uploader. Just click "try a different browser" and then click the Simple Uploader. It will appear to be the same as the HTML5 but appearances can be deceiving. It's the old Java uploader you came to know and love.

If you are having trouble with the Java uploader it might be time to update Java. Click the link below for the update.
What is Java Update?

I sure hope that helped!

Did you try updating Java?

Also right now the site is in Read Only mode which means that nobody can upload. Try updating your Java then try again when we are out of RO mode.

OK, I will check on the JAVA but Iam pretty sure its current. I didnt start having this problem until the new loader showed up and its been 100% consistant failure since. If its not going to work in IE, will there be a setting to turn it off so it isnt the default loader? You guys really should get it working in IE, it is the most popular browser after all. I personally dont use other browsers and dont really plan to in the future.

It's not us, it's the IE browser that doesn't support that tech yet. IE9 is coming out soon so hopefully that version will support HTML5.

If you clear your browser cache then select the old Java uploader it should stick as the default.

We are out of RO mode so you can try updating Java and uploading now.

Stuff like this is why I like FTP. It just works. And it is fast to boot!

I don't envy the browser/support issues this type of a thing brings.

OK, updated java, I was not current. Used the simple loader and the same thing happens. I can upload but then everything freezes. I cant close the upload window. I have to close IE and reopen, then go back to smugmug to get into my galleries.

Try clearing cache and cookies then try again. Your browser is probably still trying to use the HTML5 uploader.

Cookies IE7

To clear your cookies in Internet Explorer 7, click on "Tools". It's in the top right corner of the browser. Then select "Internet Options". That's going to open a new window with some options. Make sure that the "General" tab is selected. Then click on "Delete..." under the Browsing History section. That will bring up another window. Locate the "Delete Cookies..." button and click on that. That will remove all the cookies from your browser.

Cache IE7

To clear your cache in Internet Explorer 7, click on "Tools". It's in the top right corner of the browser. Then select "Internet Options". That's going to open a new window with some options. Make sure that the "General" tab is selected. Then click on "Delete..." under the Browsing History section. That will bring up another window. Locate the "Delete Files..." button and click on that.

I don't like the new uploader either. Usually, it gives me upload errors with 4 out of 20 image files. Even worse, there's no way to restart the image upload in the upload window for the ones with an error. You have to write down the file names, close the upload window and then start a whole new upload process for the images with an error message. That totally sucks. Who makes things that complicated? And why?
