2nd Domain Name to a Gallery? - 03-16-2008, 06:10 PM

I've already got a domain name set up with my smugmug site. If I purchased a second domain name would it be possible to set that up to point to a specific gallery?

hmmm, let me find out for you. I think you have to use sub-domains and not an entirely new domain name.

Stay tuned.

I would like to know the answer to this question as well. I would like to have 2 domain names for a single Smug account so I can seperate personal from regular site.

Thanks
Cory

I too am interested in this. My wife and I want to be able to use the same smugmug account to be tied into our individual domains. These are our personal websites.

Ok chatted with our CNAME guru here at SmugMug and got some more info.

Each SmugMug site can only have one domain actually CNAME'd to it. CNAMEs and A records are not going to work as most domain hosts will not allow you to point to a specific page. They want to see a www.yoursite.com or IP addres only. There are a couple of other options if you want multiple domains pointing to your SmugMug account.

1) When you start going deeper into a site, you have to use other methods. One way to do this would be to register a new domain for each one, then use the free hosting that comes with some domains to set up what is called an HTML redirect. This is a little bit of HTML code that you place on the page to direct it to the correct site. Like this http://www.instant-web-site-tools.co...-redirect.html

If you want help doing this, please PM or email me directly. I will hook you up with our guru over here.

2) Another option you might want to consider is vanity URLs. http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=86145 While not exactly a subdomain it would work the same way. Plus it would have the advantage of keeping your domain in the URL. So it would be www.dacphoto.com/yourwedding
