Calibration question - 07-12-2008, 06:54 PM

I think I have this figured out, but wanted to clarify a couple of things. From what I read, the calibration print should be ordered in Lustre with True color, yes? But does that mean my colors will only match when printed with those options? If someone elects to print in Matte with Autocolor, are the colors going to shift? I think the answer is 'no', but wanted to be sure. Thanks.

This is actually a little more tricky to answer and I would need more details given to our color expert.

Can you email this question to our Support Heroes, I will alert our color guy? Email us at help @ smugmug

Thanks Markham. Got a reply within a few hours. Here's the info, for others:

Answer: The calibration print should ordered in True Color, with Lustre or Gloss.

Answer: Matte will print duller and a bit darker. Auto Color will boost the shadows and mid tones. So yes, the prints will look different using Auto Color. You should edit with True Color in mind and force your galleries to True Color. The customers can still elect to go with Auto Color. But True Color will be the default.

Additionally, if I'm using a calibrated monitor, and have edited the pictures the way I want, should I tell people to order with True color?
Answer: Yes, definitely.
