I just signed up over the weekend and the customization seems to be really overwhelming. Is there a service affiliated with SM that I can pay to customize my site? :)

The folks here and on DGrin are really very helpful. Do you know what you want to go with for customization? I would at least start with picking your theme - then holler if you have more questions. I've done some.

Basically, I want to have a custom header (will work on in PSE) and nav bar (already setup) and I want a slideshow on the mainpage. Right now, it's showing the galleries on the homepage and it say's Brit583 Home and my company name is off center. How do I add other links in my nav bar (i.e. About Me, Pricing, etc)? And how do I change the color? Do I just use the themes selector for that or is there another way? Here's what it currently looks like...totally under construction LOL www.brit583.smugmug.com (my godaddy name hasn't been linked yet)
Thanks for your help!

1) The nav bar - it looks like you have several items there that all go to different places. Are you still having issues with that? Or is that just the sample and you want to customize it? Let me know and I'll help with that - this is an easy one.

2) Custom header? Like having a picture across the top where you currently have "Homegrown Memories Photography & Design" ? If so, the hard part is making the header, but you can probably do that in PSE no problem. It is off center because you haven't put in a center div section. I'll take a stab at this in a minute.

3) Color? I would start by picking the theme you want. That really is the basic way to get started and then customize off of the theme that is the closest to what you want. That way you don't have to do the work multiple times.

4) Another example? check out http://www.2-dphoto.com and let me know if my customizations meet what you are thinking. At least somewhat. But pick your theme first. All other color choices and customizations flow from that.

This guy has done HUNDREDS of SmugMug customizations.

http://www.jrphotosandwebdesign.com/

He is awesome, but he does cost money. Not too bad though, I think he charges 300 to 500 depending on how much you want.

We also have tons of customization FAQ's and we also have our help desk to help you if you want to do it yourself. Plus I can help a bit here and there.

You might want to talk to Jerry first and just see what you think? Everyone that uses him loves his work. Check out his samples: http://www.jrphotosandwebdesign.com/...22042396_fusja

Let me know!

Thanks for the suggestions Markham! I checked out the site and he does some awesome work, but I contacted him and his prices start at $425 - a little too steep for my pocketbook. Can you point me in the direction of some tutorials for beefing up my nav bar, creating my front page with the ability to have an entrance for the website and an entrance for my blog, and a tutorial on creating the slideshow through smugmug.

Thanks!
Britney

my friend helped me with mine. if you would like I can ask him what he would charge to help with yours. he used to design websites and now is kind of a bum. I htink he's taking a break from RL for a while. But he's really good.

Her eis a link to my site. http://www.lbfotos.net

So on this site: www.andydemo.smugmug.com, that site actually teaches you all you need to do for the basics. Just click on the "How to?" link in the navbar and copy the tutorials.

Also, Dgrin people are very helpful in helping you and if you email our help desk people there will help you as well.

Also, don't be afraid to post here and I will try and help you as well.
