Music for Smugmug site - 01-22-2009, 12:39 PM

Okay so I've read all about having royalty free music on my website, however, I was wondering if it's okay to add my playlist to my website? I'm trying to customize now and I really want music, but don't really want to spend an arm and a leg on a song. Please let me know...

Thanks!
Britney

As for music, go and google xspf player. It is the xspf player that many use on their SM sites.
They have to download xspf player and place the player, music list and song (Mp3 or mp4)
into a directory on their server.

Don't you still have to have rights to the music that you play on your web site?

*bump*....I'm curious too...do I still have to have permission from the artist to put it on my website...what about adding a playlist to SM...will that work?

IANAL.

Putting it on your website would be broadcasting it and you need a different license for it than you do personal use in your mp3 player. Just like SmugMug has a personal use download option and a commercial use download option - same difference as here. Markham listed HOW you can do it, but you still need to have the rights to do so - or use public domain music.

Correct.

Also, there are companies where you can buy their music to use how you wish. Here is a great one. http://triplescoopmusic.com/
